After a month of working out how to play with ungodly bad pings - I get a lot of pity /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif - I think I can give some advice with confidence. If you have any to add, please do so!
1) Don't *aim* at players. Dodge, look, dodge, fire. You have to anticipate where the players will be. I fyou try to play by what you see, you'll miss and die. It's weird and takes time but once you get used to it, you can rack up some frags.
2) Play defense. Though LPBs make better defenders, you can actually be a high scorer by focusing on flag recoveries. You just have to stay alive and hover about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way back toward the enemy base. After they take your flag, load up multiple rockets and lead them (they are usually looking back anyway). If that fails, try double enforcers (even for HPBs they work great). Finally, shock rifle combos can either kill or knock them off ledges (you only get once chance though so practice).
3) Help your team by never letting the enemy get your redeemer (which is awesome for flag recovery & multi-kills!). Just don't alt-fire since it'll explode immediately HPBs.
4) Use the rifle like a pistol, shooting from the hip. If you try to snipe, you'll die unless you have a lot of time so just shoot and lead. It only takes one hit to cripple or kill and two hits will take down most anyone. I like it since it's fast and can head shot.
5)Stay out of line-of-sight! LPBs do not even need to hit you to kill you (at least according to what you see. I've been killed by snipers and rockets long after I thought I'd turned a corner and been safely out of sight - *lagkill* - so always be aware of who could see you).
6) Be the support guy. You're not likely to be the main flag capturer but you can die for your team /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif Be the one to stay between your flag carrier and the enemy, taking bullets/rockets so they can score. I've even jumped in front of a redeemer! Also, since everyone will fly by or pass you anyway, lag behind and get easy kills.
7) Be sneaky. Stay awway from the main action sometimes and take out enemy snipers, hog their powerups and redeemers. I even will gather redeemers and *drop* them in front of a teammate LPB so they can use them more effectively.
8) Steal the flag, bring it home and drop it. Not as glorious but I've found that while I can often get their flag back to our base, I'm at every disadvantage once they chase. SO I 'feign death' which makes me drop the flag. Just make sure you pick a good teammate or it'll be wasted.
9) Rocket alt-fire, shock rifle-combo for defense. You can use either to lay death-traps for incoming. Learn to time it so when you see incomers you can get out of sight (see #5) and nail 1-2 guys before they come in. Also, HPBs tend to not use much ammo before they die, effectively wasting it so go ahead and lay down suppressing fire.
10) Be the communications specialist. If you just aren't being effective (it still happens if we're seriously overmatched), after you die, look around and start talking to your team. Let them know if there's a sniper on your own base or if the enemy's redeemer is up for grabs, if 3+ enemy are incoming, etc. You can even play dead in an out of thee way area and switch views among teammates so you can coordinate their efforts. It rarely will make a difference in *that* game but it can make future games more playable.
Sorry for the long post. Please add more!
