What benefit does the M16A2 have over the M4A1?
I was just wondering... why would anyone use the M16 when the M4 comes out?

The M4 that will be in INF is the Carbine, it only has a 14.5" barrel, the M16 has a 20" barrel ... so I imagine that accuracy would be the reason to keep your M16 over an M4.

Exactly, The m4 would play more of a CQB or Medium range role.

M16 is longer, therefore it scares more people when you are holding it instead of that puny little M4.

You can get a decent cheekweld with the M16 stock. Don't know how to reflect that handicap on the M4 ingame. Maybe have the character resettle the stock every once in a while?
Edit: I pity the fool who tries to use a scope with a collapsable stock.

WellÉ
The M-16A2 would cost less, have a better accuracy, recoil less, and have a slightly higher power thanks to the longer barrel.

IDF issues 14.5" barrel M16's to all combat units (except armored corps, some artillerists, and some antiair who get Galil SAR), with the full-size M16's used for training and most non-combat personnell... I imagine the fate of M16A2 in Infiltration will be similar.

About 150m more effective range and greater lethality and penetration at ranges past 150meters.

AFAIK, it's 300 meters, not 150... even designated marksmen are equipped with 14.5" M16's.

Well, I see ACOGs and other scopes mounted on mekutzars (mekutzar = hebrew for shortened = IDF synthesis of M16A1 reciever with 14.5" barrel and telescopic stock), and since IDF doesn't issue scopes to every single infantryman, it means they are designated marksmen, whose mission is to provide fire support at ranges of around 300 meters.

I was referring to greater lethality and penetration... to my knowledge, they behave virtually identically up to 300 meters.

150m.
That's the range where the velocity of a 62 grain bullet out of the M4's 14.5mm barrel with a 1 in 7 twist drops below the muzzle velocity needed to spall reliably on impact. With the M16A2 it's twice as far. Effective range with an M4 is pretty much maxed at 400 meters. Best case scenario.

I'm talking 1:12 twist barrels though, with M193 ammo, not 1:7/M855. For some reason unknown to me, IDF has a VERY small amount of 1:7 twist M16 barrels in inventory, I've only seen one once... M855 ammo is used for Negev LMG though.
