I joined your server a few times last night, only to be met with frustration.
First thing, I tried to start playing, only to have the mapvote mutator overwrite my up/down keybinds. All of a sudden, I couldn't move, except left/right. Every time I tried to move up or down the map vote screen kept coming up. Okay, I disconnected and put my user.ini back to normal.
I rejoined and tried to translocate up to a tower, and no x-loc enabled. [sigh] I tried to start fraggin' and each time I spawned some bot would flak/rocket my tail immediately (sure felt like spawn camping). Are you planning to enable x-loc?
BTW - My ping was consistent 230. I usually play servers that avg < 80. Maybe I'm just not used to the lag difference. It wasn't much, but something I'm just not used to.
Granted, I was pretty tired last night, after a long day, so I'll try it again another night. Maybe tonight.

I read somewhere that every player on a server takes up (or needs) 250K. So that would mean you could have 3 players on beofre killer lag took over?
Am I wrong here?

Yeah I saw you, I was playing myself at the time. I was wondering
why you didnt move.
When you fist join a server with MapVote, it pops a window
asking for the hotkey to use - I think you scrolled up and down
in the list of keys (They are only there as a guide) and then
mapvote set your keys (up/down) as hotkeys. I agree that
this is not a good way the set the keys, it is bound to cause
trouble for others to, hmmm what to do? - maybe I will take
it off, it also seems to mess with Xmaps that is rotating my maps.
About the x-loc I dont know - It ruins the maps where the
powerups and goodies are placed so they are hard to get.
Like when a power up can only be reached by going a long way
to get it easy, or faster way with a hammerjump (Like a DA
on a crate)
Hehe, yeah - I also suspect some of those damn bots to spawnkill
sometimes - on some levels the author have even placed
ambushpoints near the spawnpoints.
As far as I have been able to read (On TheAdminPage) 800k
should be enough for about 10-12 players - maybe I will bring it
down, but right now im testing to see how many the server/line
can support without any lag.
Well that is why im trying to get some human players on
The bots are just there now, so the server is not empty if
somebody jumps on. If they jump on an empty server AND
there is no bots to play, guess what they will do
Maybe 8 is to many, thats why im asking for feedback, I just
want to make a great server to play on.

My problem is that I like to use the X-Loc as a weapon. I don't always need flak, rockets, etc. Just a nicely timed toss and poof, you're spawning. Especially against those campin' bots!
So why have power ups in map, if you can't get to them when you need them? If I'm almost dead but can't get to the shield belt to protect myself, because a hammerjump will kill me, what good is it? Hmmm...doesn't make much sense to me. Oh well, that's okay. It is your server and if you're happy with it, then that's cool.
I tried chatting with you last night, but you never answered. I typed a bunch of messages to you. Again, no biggie, I figured out how/what happened with the mapvote mutator and have it fixed, now. I should be set for next time.
BTW - if fewer bots mean a better ping time, then I'd suggest that! The better the ping, the better your participation will be...usually.
Peregrin - I know that now...didn't help me much last night.

I agree, we need the translocator and possibly fewer bots (maybe 6). Actually, you can get to a powerup in Grim War's Fist, but you have to jump from beam to beam just right. Is it really that bad that I didn't see the redeemer in Anubis? Wait a minute, I said this was my favorite map, it is that bad!

No redeemer with all of the power ups?? Dude, I know this is your server, but that's an unbalanced game. Whoever hogs the power ups, has an unfair advantage.

I only think that the xloc belongs in ctf/lgig - in dm I
realy think it ruins the play for the players that spends
the time to learn maps and to get the goodies.
Take Anubis, there I always use the boots to get the
keg on the alcove above the stairs - then I try to get
to the deemer without using the boots, if I do run out
of bootjumps I hammer jump from the stairs by the ripper
to land on the deemer.
Or GrimFist - I can get the keg between the two pillars with the
green stuff easy - run out of the room where the mini is - then
take a little jump down on the ledge, turn, forward dodge (Jump
wont work) - and you land right smack on the keg - hmm I have
never gone for the DA by the ledges, I useually wait until
somebody tries to get it and lay a combo up there.
When you know stuff like that that - you have a big advantage
over other players - with the xloc on, anybody can just toss it
up there - also, ever wonder why there are boots in a level
where a hard to get goodie is?
Some powerups is also there to lure you to try and get
them - when you do, you are an easy target, hehe...
An easy way to learn where stuff is hidden is to open
the maps in Ued and snoop around

Anyways, I will take the bots down to 6 - I have taken the
skill down and configured the bots as suggested.
I dont think it will affect the pings much, I think the high ping you

Just played Agio and Elsinore ][ and the bots seemed easier. The tightness of these maps (esp. Elsinore][) may have confined the bots a bit for more easier fragging. Lag is still bad (233). I'm not giving up on this server, if I improve my skills, can get used to a little lag. God knows there is some on those crazy high speed servers (level above hardcore, anything above this is insane).
Did you take a look at Helleth][?
I never had trouble with map votes like that, but since you have a relatively small # of maps you probably don't need it. You can change the order anytime to bring up a map you want anyway. See Ya!

Just saw on my DSL providers status page, that they have been
doing some upgrades, so that could be what have cause the
bad pings - I useually ping around 50-80 when playing on the
server and my friends here from DK is also sub 100 ping and
even _my_ connection was a little laggy today, but they should be

page? - tried to check the other maps but they are all down
I saw you were playing a while ago, I was editing my server.ini
to set it to 6 bots but I did not want to break up the game and
reboot the server before you were done playing.
It should be at 6 bots now.
btw, I am running xMaps and it can switch between map lists
and with different mutators - I was thinking about maybe
finding a mutator that put the xloc on, and then set up some
maps suited for the xloc (maps like 'The City' UT Intro map clone)
and then say, every 2-4 maps it would play a couple of those...

That 250k/per player thing (Man I wish I could remember where I read that) seems true to me. I fired up a server last night. My buddy connected. Now, I have DSL 768/2-something. Me 250K, + my buddy 250k = 500k. Everything was fine. A thrid guy joined my server, now (IF what I read is true) we are up to 750k. A little while later a 4th guy joins and BAM, everyone had 4 digit pings. As soon as he left, and it was just the 3 of us, things were back to normal.
Seems true to me.

That sounds like you were running a non-dedicated server.
When running non-dedicated, the UT engine uses _massive_
amounts of system resources to run the game while also
acting as a server.
In dedicated mode, the server only has to send and receive
collision/info and stuff like that, so it has a lot less to do.
It will also depend on what you have your MaxClientRate
set to, in your server.ini - the default is 20000 I think, and
that will allow a cable/dsl user that joins, to suck up all the

DM-City Intro is good! Thanks for waiting to change bot numbers. Yeah, a translocator mutator or somehow making some maps use it and others don't is a good idea. But don't add relics, some other servers do this and speed up the game and it can be a pain. See Ya!

I think I spotted the problem...

Bingo - I got the file download popup, I think they changed
something in a hurry and messed up the link...
Its like that with any file on nalicity, at least for me, but I can get
