Basically, I just wanna get a general consensus of the INF people on whether or not they are excited about nForce. The fact that everything you put in it will all work on one driver, the incredible performance boost it will give, the extra capabilities, etc. I really can't wait to see if nVidia can really pull this off. I love their cards, yes, but this is a whole different thing altogether. I am definitely willing to pay for everything to be based on one driver if it works, and anyone who owns a GeForce knows they deliver the goods when it comes to drivers, but with the nForce who knows?

Well, what do you all think?

Rogue, you will most likely love the nForce just cuz it's anti-Intel.

But seriously, if you wanna read a good article, go here. There's literally tons of info about all of it on the net, and this article really doesn't cover much of it, but it offers some unique insight. You can check out a pricing article here as well.

. Anyway, when will these be available? Sounds great to me, I always love NVidia and I"m confident in their ability to deliver a quality product.

I seem to remember Intel was suing Nvidia because they used the Intel reference design or something, to make it compatible with Intel processors without getting approval from Intel. Very monopolistic.

No, I'm saying their attempt to destroy any technological innovation that threatens their income is their way of encouraging competition.

Yeah, but I think they were also pissed cuz nVidia basically dissed them by going with AMD's technology, in lieu of theirs, like they have been. I think it's a step in the right direction. I mean, I love my mp3 player to death and my PIII is sweet, but P4 SUXXXXX! My next 'puter is gonna be AMD all the way, an Athlon most likely, and if nForce turns out to be the best thing since sliced bread (still hate that expression, sliced bread sux), I'll make sure I get it.

I love my Athlon. My first 586 was a Pentium 133 that ran Windows 95, and I used it for 5 years, up until last Feb. actually (it was murder seeing all my friends playing awesome games and all I had was Quake), but I kept saving up and bought a great computer that put all theirs to shame and made them jealous, hehehe. Of course, my then state of the art Athlon 650 sucks now. But its been a lot more stable and I've got a lot of performance out of it. My P133 was terrible. It had an amazing ability to overheat to the point of creating smoke. I ran a benchmark program and it said the actual running speed of the processor was about 40 mhz. But my Athlon, though slow now, and probably the bottleneck on my performance right now, is still strong and performance well over 650 without me even having to overclock it. And since they overclock so easily I think some time I'll overclock it to 900 or 950 and keep it for another year. Its a much better value than the Pentiums.

I have a somewhat related question.. Is WindowsME EVER going to support dual processors! It's ridiculous that I PAID for 2 500mhz processors and I only GET 1! And most games work horribly in Windows2000. One problem or the other has to get fixed, until then my computer sucks. It's very frustrating.

I doubt they will add that to Me.
I've found Win2k works good with games if you tweak it enough. Most of my trouble has been with d3d games, and using nvmax i got most of my performance back to winme levels.

You could run Quake @ 40 mhz?!? I could barely run Doom on my 486 back in the day. You sure you meant Athlon? I thought Althons were 750+. Bah, I wish I could OC my CPU. Stupid OEM. I'm building my next rig, doesn't seem incredibly hard. Wish me luck and pray I don't electrocute myself.

ME blows!!! Get 98SE, best Windows OS out there IMHO.

It's easy.. I do it and I'm 14.

Windows98 SE or not doesn't include dual processor support either.

I could run quake, but nothing more. It had to be at 320x240x16 in software mode, no glquake.

Athlons started at 500 mhz. I think Duron started at 750, and tbird athlon was at 900 if i remember correctly

Good luck building your puter. Its really quite easy if you have any experience with hardware, and its a lot cheaper than buying a computer.
