Stuff like this makes me go berserk

You know, had Epic and Digital Extremes made Unreal Tournament a complete clone of Half-Life, only replacing the .357 from half-life with, say, a .44 Bulldog (the Son of Sam's gun, for the morbidly curious) then people would have flipped out.

Yet TacticalOps completely rips off Counter-Strike, changes the AUG to a FAMAS, and stands to make money off of it. Not only that but I'm fairly sure they took other mods sounds and code to hasten the release.

Now to top it off, they have the exact same scenarios!

http://unreal.infopop.net/OpenTopic/...98&m=112098281

Yep, that's right. Bomb defusal and "witness protection" or "VIP protection" or "Assassination", if you will.

Yes, now you too can play your Counter-Strike clone on AS_Ripoff, DE_Copycat, CS_Clone, and ES_Pieceof****.

I can't ****ing believe this.

They take the buying system. They copy virtually all the guns, and get them ALL wrong, solely on the basis that Counter-Strike got them all wrong in the same way. Now they take their scenarios? And there's some of us that are fairly sure that sounds from Firearms HL and coding from several other UT mods were used to produce a quick public version. Yep, they stand to make money off of this.

I wonder if any of the tools of TacOps fans know how much the team is using them just to turn a pretty profit. Yeah, that $25,000 (that Shag shouldn't be able to win, since the rules of contest stipulate that "The Contest is open to legal residents of the United States. Void in Puerto Rico, Vermont, Maryland, North Dakota, Minnesota and where prohibited by law," and Shag is the entrant of the MOD, and he is from France, which should automatically disqualify him and his goddam mod.) Not to mention the name "TacOps" is already a registered trademark of another game, and its pretty much their name too, since they use it more than "TacticalOps".

Does anybody care about this kind of stuff but me? Its this kind of complacence from people that these types of illegal, amoral activities are allowed to continue. Microsoft was broken up for much less, and for operating fairly legally at that.

Makes me sick...

Anyways, I have all the versions of SWAT/TO, and I'll be running comparisons on the so-called "stolen code", and I'll let you know if anything turns up...

I agree with you Mojo. It'd piss me off too. The more I think about this contest, the more unfair I think it is. It's like this: Imagine that you've spend years building a car from the ground up. You bought all the parts yourself. You put it all together on your own. And just when your about to wheel it out onto the showroom floor, some guy who painted racing stripes on a Ferarri and called it a new car comes tearing out of left field and snatches the trophy.

So, TO wins, so what?

Will that make the mod any better?
They go from clarity to clarity with each progressing beta.
If it's a CS ripoff, so what? Actually, I'm thinking of perhaps suggesting that they make it an official CS for UT conversion!

This is another little glitch that passed through their quality control. Apparantly it's supposed to be fixed with the next release, 1.3 or 2 or whatever... But you never know

Enjoy The Glitch;

Peace
C.

Well, considering the fact that they have a mod-bashing jackass as their lead QA, it doesn't surprise me that those sorts of things happen. Oh well.

You've got it all wrong...

No, T/O is _completely_ different from CS...They added drugs, remember?
*sigh*
Actually I'm just surprised thst the CS team isn't making a big stink about this...(Or maybe they have and I've just haven't heard about it) I'm really interested as to what they say on the matter...If 'twere me, I'd be k-bar assraping T/O teammembers left and right... Not that I don't like the mod, it's second in line right after Inf, when I wanna play a realistic shooter, But such a blatant clone of another game is just NOT copacetic with me, 'specially if they're trying to pass it off as their own original work..
If it were solicited, ("Hey, wanna make a version of our mod for UT?" "Umm...Okay.") I'd congratulate them for making such a good reproduction...

To make matters more interesting, TO is going to be included in the "UT:Game of the Year" edition along with Chaos UT and some map packs..(For people who aren't quite smart enough to realize that they can get these for free online)

Well, that's my $0.02
later,
Ak

Yeah... that's my favorite desperate man arguement for Tactical Ops not being like counter-strike. "We added 'cocain' (sic) and 'marijuana with needle'... SO ITS NOT AN EXACT ****ING RIPOFF OF COUNTER-STRIKE"

pfft...

anyways, I made a big deal about this, and not surprisingly, the moderators locked the post and censored my voice once again. Hurray for nazis. I love that, they talk alot of ****, but don't back it up, they just shut me up. A true sign of a fear of people learning to truth.

Beretta has mirrored the HTML here:

http://glock.tiw.net

as well as the original post (it contains more follow ups of stupid people trying to rationalize what the TO is doing) which you can find here:

http://unreal.infopop.net/OpenTopic/...98&m=571091481

And if you're shakily defending TO, afraid of some backlash, I have been threatened many times with the abuse of people's powers. Shag has tried to ban me for something I said in somebody elses forums, on a completely different domain. Rojazz has threatened me with an abuse of powers. My negative article on TacticalOps was immediately removed from planetunreal (you'll understand why after reading the post.)

Anyways. The kind of complacence that leads people to believe that these kinds of fights are futile is exactly while we're still governed by totalitarians and fascists. I'm not saying every nut that says the government's out to get them is right, I'm just saying that with all the bad people in the world, its impossible to genuinely believe not one of them gets into power in our so called civilized corner of the world. And when you control all the evidence, all you have to do is supress it and say that the people are insane, and everybody will believe you. Conspiracies happen at all levels, just because they can.

People should voice their opinions instead of cowering in fear.

You may also notice that Torque Wrench's reply to mine about him "just voicing his opinion" has been edited hastily after I posted my original reply to his message. THis is because his original message was inflammatory. Again, its his right to do that, but the way he tries to (again) twist the truth with his second post is hilarious.

That's a pretty small post, and removing and adding a few (misspelled, at that) words wouldn't be to hard in the period of anywhere between one second to one minute, fifty-nine seconds.

Oh well. Die truth die, the tacops fans hate you, you destroy their pathetic illusions.

The CS team is far too well off to care. They probably think every other mod copies them anyway.

It does not surprise me at all that CS has not made a stink.

Would you make a stink if you were Leonardo D'Vinci, and someone in another town made a version of the Mona Lisa out of gibbon ****?

Bottom line: if the quality of the product were anywhere near that of CS, then perhaps Gooseman could lose some sleep. As TO is right now, I don't think there is much of a concern in his camp.

Well, you can obviously shoot up alot of drugs... ganja just isn't one of them. Somebody HAS mentioned something to the counter-strike team, but since they don't actually own the premise, all any of us can do is mirror this post on their forums and have their rabid fans run after TO.

calling tac-ops a counter-strike clone would be an insult to counter-strike... it doesn't play half as well, it's textures are half-assed or non-existant and is even less realistic than counter strike... how people rave about how excellant it is is really quite disgusting

It is impossible for the glass to be half full or half empty for you see: there is no glass

Man......................

Mojo, after reading thru your posts on the TO board a couple of times, I would say that you have a way of expressing your opinions I have rarely (ever?) seen before.
Most of your posts on both this and the TO board are a true joy to read.
Keep it up.
My new idol.
