I dont think it would be too hard to do, I mean if you can have blood on the walls and floor, why not on people?
And we know that peoples heads can be blown off, so why not their arms and stuff? If you get shot by a Robar in the arm your arm should be ripped clean off.

the robar would probably be the only gun capable of really shooting a piece of somebody off. i don't think it'd really be worth all the extra trouble

I really doubt the UT engine could do that. Anyone know for sure?

The map walls are BSP objects. The players are models. Its a lot harder to add decals to a map than a model.

Limbs torn off
I never treated .50 cal wounds (at least that I knew were .50 cal), so I can't say for sure, but IMO it would be a very rare event (I wouldn't be surprised if it's never happened, but lots of things are possible) for a single .50 cal round to completely remove an extremity. Even if the round directly impacted the head of the humerus (upper arm bone), shattering it and blowing fragments away from the body, there would still be more than enough tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament, integument) remaining attached to prevent the upper extremity from simply dropping off. I doubt the hydrostatic concussion would be enough to detatch all that tissue. The lower extremity? No way in Hell.

I think it IS possible to blow away someones limb, you just have to know where to hit and what to hit it with.
Also I think you can use a shotgun with the right ammo in, to take off a limb, but don't hold me to either of these. But it seriously would be cool to do it.. *thinks back to AvP days as a Predator...*
"Who Shouted 'MEDIC!'?" |

In WW2 the MG42 was feared not only because ofit's sound abut because of the effect it had on human targets, it tended to remove limbs a lot.
The reason is not it's caliber (it was only 7.62 if i remember correctly) but because of it's ROF (1100 RPM!!! for a machine gun) it simply sawed them off.
quote:
The skillful warriors in ancient times first made themselves invincible and then awaited the enemy's moment of vulnerability. Invincibility depends on oneself, but the enemy' vulnerability on himself. It follows that those skilled in war can make themselves invincible but cannot cause an enemy to be certainly vulnerable. Therefore, it can be said that, one may know how to win, but cannot necessarily do so.[/quote] -Sun Tzu, The art of war. |

-What to hit it with? Hmmm, spray it with a 7.62 M134, 72mm mortar or RPG, etc, etc. j/k I don't think one shot with the 12.7 would rip it off. I mean, a whole arm? Measure your arm. Does it come close to 12.7mm, or a little over 1cm? Nope. I think it would be possible however with several shots from a 5.56 or a 7.62. This is why we need a M134 However, an arm could be blown off with the M2HB.

ACtually I remember hearing about a repeater rifle that from over a kilometer away could tear someone's torso in half. I don't remember much more than that. I saw one of the rounds for it, it was at least half a foot long.

i think a 16" naval gun would do a good job of dismembering somebody. but hitting some one with it would be a bitch.

more realism atleast
I would like to see better wounds in infiltration, but has anyone considered the fact that if theres a large number of wounds and death animation that could slow the performance down.I say"could"because im not sure if it really would be a huge factor. The limbs getting blown off would get old if it happened all the time,so I think it could be more random but only happen in a believable scenario(close range shotgun blast,.50 robar,grenades,etc..).The bullet contacting the players should cause the occasional chunk or two of polygonal flesh to fly off.Just watch -Saving Private Ryan- to get an idea of how the wounds could be.My grandpa was in that beach storm in ww2 thats in SPR,and he sais thats how it looks(delightfull memories).

I think very good locational damage can be a bandwith killer. I've yet to see it working well online.
Each playermodel had to have several more complicated positioned collision boxes instead of the two (I think) current simple ones. Maybe INF could be ported to Rune ( www.runegame.com ) that uses a modified UT engine and has such stuff as real limb losing and damage textures (but not as detailed as SOF [which blows as a game IMO btw]) + other nice modifications. Though I doubt it would be worth the work. |

Since when was Soldier of Fortune realistic?
If you really want more detail in injuries, you should wait until the new Unreal Engine is released to the public

A little late, but still:
The MG42 used 7.92mm rounds. They were standard in the German army of WWII. Just for the ones who didn't know.. Snakeye ![]() anything you do can get you killed, including doing nothing |
