Hey all,
Ok with the risk of this turning into a flame war(hopefully not) I have been playing ID games since DOOM. Up till Quake3...I was all excited when I got Quake3...You know the promise of something big. For awhile there, I was kinda excited to be playing Quake3 but there was always that nagging feeling that it was lacking something. Just recently, I downloaded Unreal Tournament Demo. Once I started playing the UT demo, I realized some of what Quake3 may be missing. "The Fun Factor" "Inovation" Where Quake3 is a big mess of "run, shoot, die, respawn" UT actually takes that same order and makes it "FUN" Quake3 graphics while it looks good, seems really cartoony since playing UT. UT has that nitty grim look to it thus adding to it's realism. Plus the bots in UT know when to keep quiet and not be chatter-boxes. Lastly the weapons in Quake3 haven't really changed much from the last games from ID. UT weapons...now thats inovation. So basically what I am saying is this...UT ROCKS MY ASS!!! ...ID who...?

i bought UT first then Q3
didn't want to try the demo, since demos don't always seem fair to the final product. Just had to compare for myself. all I have to say is....... anyone want to buy a cheap retail version of Q3?

Domm II still rules, I don't think I've ever had the feeling of fear and paranoia playing I another game that I had with Doom II

I bought UT the day it came out. I was a huge Unreal fan...so I knew I'd be getting a great game. I'd played the demo and knew it was light years better....but nothing prepared me for the depth of gametypes and the innovative maps that Epic threw in.
Quake and Quake 2 were always on my Hard Drive, so I was watching closely as Q3 was nearing completion (how could you miss it? It got all the press!). Since I was busy with UT, I put it off for a few weeks. When I finally got around to buying it, I found myself being wowed with the graphics...and bored by the gameplay. Corridors, stairs, evil decor....been there. Where was the innovation? Well, I still have it. I thought there would be a few good mods. But UT ended up sitting in my CD Drive and Q3 got a nice place in the CD Rack. |
