Square Enix Inks Major Unreal Engine Deal

A few days late on this one - apologies! Square Enix (we all like to say Squeenix, right?) has invested in a major licensing deal that gives them access to Unreal Engine technology studio-wide. Yep, that's right... UE3 and UE4 games will be pouring out of their studios in the future.

"Epic has a strong relationship with Square Enix, and it's an honor to provide their creative and technical talent with the best game technology available for licensing," said Taka Kawasaki, territory manager of Epic Games Japan. "We look forward to supporting their developers with world-class tools for years to come."

Yeah, I was questioning that when this news broke last week. It's possible they may use it only on Final Fantasy.

Wonder if the inevitable DX:HR followup will see the DX franchise coming back to Uengine.
