Anyone know of any good free firewalls, seeing as I'm not so fully confident in the windows XP standard firewall.

  Some time ago Kerio was good. If that's still the case you can get the old version or get the new version from Sunbelt if you don't mind the Scientologie rumors.

You can still get the standard edition. The only reason I'm not using it right now is my laptop came with a 90-day trial of BullGuard which is pretty nifty, but not free.
