Blood Ritual Announced
Students from the Guildhall at SMU have announced Blood Ritual for UT2004. The mod, something of a Headhunters TDM with runes, will be submitted to the 2006 Independent Games Festival. Best of all... Blood Ritual will be released to the public Wednesday October 26th! Below are some of the rules of gameplay. Check the website for more details on the two races, the storyline, the rune descriptions, and of course lots of pics and media. When a player dies, his or her head becomes a game item that may be picked up. When a player touches an enemy head, that head is picked up and placed in the player's possession, up to a maximum of 3 heads. When a player touches a teammate's head, that head is spiritually released (destroyed), and is no longer useful to the enemy team. When a player touches the team totem, the carried heads are placed on the totem. Only then do the heads count toward the team score. All carried heads are dropped when a player dies, and behave just as if they had been newly removed from their original owners. A head that has not been touched for 30 seconds disappears. |

It's a gametype from Quake III Team Arena: Harvester

Harvester was in TeamArena, courtesy of the id retail expansion pack. HeadHunters goes back to Quake.
They are nearly the same gametype. |

The difference with Harvester is that you have to bring the heads to the enemy base, giving them another chance to stop you from scoring. It's damn hard to stop someone from running away compared to stopping him from running towards you. Plus in Harvester the heads spawn at a central location, not where the guy died.
