This is my first post and just want to say hi to all of you.
I am new to UT and only start playing UT online for a week or so and I have some questions. I play DM mainly and there are a few things that make me a bit confused. Firstly, I dont generally frag ppl who just respawn or ppl who are stationary due to bad ping or pocket loss. (I am only using 56K moderm) But, i got killed quite a lots when i just respawn and got stalled due to pocket loss. Am I too polite or is it ok to frag ppl in those situations. I dont want to start out and make a bad name for myself. Also, when two guys are fighting each other out... i dont join in and take cheap shots...again am i too polite as I got killed qute a lot by ppl doing that.. Any expert opinions from all you ppl will be appreciated. From BD14 13, May, 2000 |

Hi!
welcome, I'm a newcomer too. ![]() Anyways, to answer your question. Spawn killing isnt really aceptable, unless they come after you straight after spawning. As for 2 guys going at it one on one, go for it, double kills rule. ![]() |

heyo! In DM, the rule is anything goes. there are a few exceptions if you want to be a nice guy, limp bodies of people just joining the game or lagged out by PL, or people obviously making an attempt to hide so they can talk. no one will blame you if you do kill someone, it is Death Match after all.

Welcome to the wild, wacky and generally weird world of PuF !!
You are quite right - don't frag those who are lagged. We all kill spawners occasionally in passing (instinct) - you can't just ignore them and let them frag you in the back (if you have a higher ping, the first shot is probably already on it's way). DO NOT camp, and spawn-snipe. That is frowned upon, and generally leads to a one way ticket to the Llamafarm. I agree with Unbeliever regarding your last point though. Keeping an eye out for someone sneaking up on you while engaged in a duel is all part of the game. I doubt anyone is likely to reciprocate this courtesy, unless you know the people involved (clan practice, for example). As for other people, just ignore those who behave in a llamalike manner. Enjoy your moral superiority and the respect of REAL players. And if they really piss you off, turn llamahunter and persuade them to change their ways !! Cya on the servers - just watch your back !! ![]() ![]() Bored with signatures..... |

For instance:
On top of face If I snipe, I will kill no more than 2 fresh (respawned) players. I beleive everything is justified. When it becomes a ritual (the only thing you do is snipe respawned players and the occasional flag runner) thats the problem. DM: kill everyone anyway CTF: protect the base by all means neccesary DOM: control point(s) by any means LMS: kill by all means (while covering yo @ss) Some levels are gennerally small and only have 4 or five spawn point relatively close together. Staying in this vicinity w/ a mini killing everything that pops up is lame. |

Hi and welcome to PuF
![]() I recently posted something like this a few days ago and pretty much the response I got was in DM anything goes except camping at a spawn spot. If you wanna get a few more detailed perspectives do a search by my user name it should pop up. I'd post a link to it but I don't quiet know how...duh!!! ![]() 0shadow0 Mum's the word dumbs my motto Suicidal Maniac and damn proud of it!! Here you go OshadowO.
O's thread Just don't camp out by the spawn sites. Other than that, go for it where DM is concerned. If someone is obviously talking/typing I usually won't kill them (sometimes the instincts take over) and it doesn't bother me if someone blasts me while I am typing/talking. Join us in #planetunreal. Sometimes though , you will come across guys who talk talk talk , they'd really be better off in IRC so if you fell annoyed by their continual chatter , by all means , ventilate em
ps , i'm talking about smappers here , not guys organising matches or attacks ![]() ![]() Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no Evil , for The meanest motherf**kers in the valley,Are on my team... |

ok, bascally, politeness means little when you play DM! never camp or spam, but on public servers, most people are @ssholes anyway (especially some clans), so kill everything... its easier that way. and youll live longer too!

hi, and welcome!
(for all the other PuF-ers, I'm at home now, with no access to UT and on a dinky modem and a dinkier phone line...damn this site loads slow! =P ) I think everyone else has pretty much covered everything there is to know. I think you'll see that there is pretty much no way to make everyone else happy AND score a frag (kinda like in real life. Which is why people usually don't get fragged in real life). But ya, pretty much shoot anything that moves or doesn't move. As for blowing up him who just spawned....hey, if you're in a game and that happens to you... should be ok, right? I've entered games where I've died before I've even entered the game... (c'mon... it's not like you're playing bots anymore...civility is nice and much appreciated, but...). The only thing i would add is, apologize (especially if you think you did a llama [lamer] like thing). For instance, I once killed a friend ([SBL]-Cobra) right when he entered the game; when you are running behind the enemy base with a flak cannon, and a guy of the opposite color appears out of nowhere, certain instincts take over... Moving right along, he respawned around the corner, and was typing a hello-type message. I fragged again, without realizing that he was stationary and pointed face down. so of course i apologized to him in game, and later in channel. It's still civility/politeness, which I think it what you are aiming to achieve, right? (and of further note, [SBL]-Cobra totally owned me the rest of the night I think...=) ![]() We tend to laugh at hillbillies, and I guess that's okay. But let me tell you something about hillbillies: they're fun to laugh at. Oh, I guess I said that. -Jing (previously "Omega-Seven") |
