The classic is back... and has never looked better. Spoondog has released CTF-LavaGiant-Classic, his UT2004 update to Juan Pancho 'XceptOne' Eekels legendary UT map, CTF-LavaGiant. Get it now from Unreal Playground or FilePlanet (NaliCity mirror coming soon).

Great. I've been waiting for this since the screwed up LavaGiant][ :)

However it might have been nice to update the level geometry to UT2004 standards while still keeping the old layout

it doesn't look too bad - but it is very dark compared to the
old map - and the textures give it a very busy look.

too dark and moody for me to really enjoy it. and it's not
my gamma or brightness setting; if i would increase either,
it would make other maps look washed out.

faceclassic has the right brightness for instance.

I've tried it and it doesn't feel right. Can't say what it is, but something aren't right with this map.

Also what neenee said, it's a bit too dark.

The fact that it has an Earth-like planet in the skybox rather than an unstable gas giant? I wondered if I was the only one worried about that :p.

It is kind of dark, but you can always mess around with your graphic settings to fix that (Brightness, Gamma, Contrast).

as i said - it would make other maps look washed-out.

it would be like carrying around two pairs of sunglasses; one for
outside in the sun, the other for bright lights which were recently
installed in some public area.

it would be better if those bright lights would be taken care of,
since making the sun less bright is not much of an option.

I'm not a fan of it at all. It just doesnt feel right. The textures all look like they've been scaled way too big, the skybox is really odd (There's some type of nazi swas gas in the air or something) and yes, it is too dark. Not to mention the poor frames I got for some reason. 20-30fps it seemed on this comp (Athlon XP 2600+ OCed to 2800+, 512MB PC2700, Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB)

Overall, I think the only thing it really has going for it is the original's layout.
