Well, I've finally managed to finish up a few of my voicepacks, and couldn't wait till I'd finished the rest to release them :)

First, some important information:

All three of these voices use a custom species class to provide access to custom pain and death sounds. Therefore, they will NOT work online in their default state. To counter Epic's stupid handling of species classes, I've added an additional entry to each of the character .upl files that uses a default species so that the voices can be used online if you wish. To do so, simply open the .upl file for the character and add a semi-colon ( ; ) to the beginning of the first entry, and remove it from the second entry. You can now select the netplay friendly version in the player settings menu as usual. If you don't play online, or simply don't want to use the characters online, then you can use the characters as they are without modification.

Alternatively, if you want to use a completely different character with the voicepacks, you can simply select the custom voice of your choice in the player settings menu - the custom species will be ignored and the default species will be used instead.

Ok, that's that out of the way :) To install the characters, simply extract the files from each zip (using folder names) directly to your UT2004 directory. If for some reason this doesn't work, place the files as follows:

.u - System
.int - System
.upl - System
.uax - Sounds
.utx - Textures

Firstly, we have my favourite character from more or less any film I've seen: Ash from Evil Dead 3 - Army of Darkness:

Download Ash Voice Pack (5mb)

Voicepack has 47 Taunts, 5 custom pain sounds and 8 custom (and extremely funny :D ) death sounds. All orders and other commands are taken care of by the default Merc Male voice. If you like comedy voice packs, download this now! \o/

Next we have another comedy voice pack in the shape of a merc male with a very robust sense of humour ("Ooooh! That's gonna leave a mark!".......):

Download Comedy Merc Voicepack (3mb)

Voicepack has 48 Taunts, 4 custom pain sounds and uses the default mercmale death sounds. Almost all commands and other orders are custom, with a few minor exceptions. He also has custom Friendly Fire sounds.

And lastly for the moment, we have a voice pack using the unreal 2 marine sounds as a base:

Download Unreal 2 Marine Voice Pack (3mb)

Again, voicepack has 48 taunts, 8 custom pain sounds and 8 custom death sounds, 6 custom friendly fires sounds, and uses the default mercmale for other commands and sounds.

To play as the characters I've created to go with these voice packs, just choose them in the player settings menu (you can filter the selection down to just the voicepack characters using the Filter dropdown box). They can also be added as bots in the usual way. Or as I said above, you can use a different character and simply choose my voicepacks from the menu (but you won't get the kickass pain and death sounds like that :( )

That's your lot for the time being, hope you enjoy them as much as I do :D

I don't get how Epic managed to screw up voicepack support so badly. :hmm:

I'll try the Ash one, but overall I ain't that keen on voicepacks anymore. Btw, do you know if anyone ported the Protoss][ voicepack to UT2k4? It'd be awesome to have it again.

Yeah, me either. I think part of it is probably the stupid Species Stats mutator that no-one uses - it'd way too easy to hack the stats and cheat online. Dunno what other reasons they had though.

links aren't working for me :(

Hmm, well my sig isn't displaying so it looks like my webspace is down at the moment

If you notice my sig working again, try the links and they should be fine (I tested them earlier and know they work ok). I'll have proper BU mirrors set up in the next day or so hopefully, if Parser gets off his behind and gives me the ftp details (nudge nudge, wink wink ;) ).

Thanks for all the effort. Ash is a natural voice pack charactor. I hope you put in "Give me some sugar baby."

Raincloud has an excellent Voice Pack site. It hasn't been updated since April 22. And UnrealGrrl has her new versions out as well. So I expect real life has got in his way. Anyhow you should check out Rainclouds VoiceShrine.

Also Gamespot has several voice packs in its Unreal 2004 downloads section, and I suspect they would host your files too.

When I get a chance to load them up I will comeback with some feedback, either here or an e-mail.

I hope the next patch fixes all the VP bugs, even some custom skin packs have kept some people from multiplayer servers. I don't play with anything but custom models and at least a couple voice packs. Bender is my favorite. Raincloud made that pack by the way. It often reminded me of Ash. Again thank you for all the effort.

There's a Torch-looking model that "hosts" the Ash voice. Any chance at this guy being updated to an Ash model, complete with chainsaw? :D

I have been thinking about it ;) I'd have to team up with someone else to do the skinning though, as it's not my strong point (still learning that :) ).

Priscilla is cool, but I'm not sure which voice pack he's using.

It should be in the voice selection menu under Comedy Merc Male. The third one doesn't have a custom skin, it's currently using the Othello model, and is named Jan. He should be in the selection filter in player settings, under U2Marine. His voice is also U2 Marine in the voice selection menu. If you can't find it can you check the log and see if there's something missing? There shouldn't be, and I've tested him on a clean install to be sure, but you never know. Thanks!

Yep, it's in there along with his other 'personal' taunts (This....is my BOOMSTICK! and so on) :D

Glad you guys like them :)

You can get a protoss skin protoss voice pack when you download the Protoss model.
Hmm, thanks. I am seriously underwhelmed though. The model looks rather UTish to me, and the Protoss][ voicepack for UT was much better.

Oh well, maybe I can convert Prososs][ for UT or get the author to do it.

Find out if he's still modding or whatever. If he isn't, and doesn't feel like updating the voicepack, see if he'd mind someone else doing it. Give me a link to download it if he says it's ok and I'll compile a 2K4 version :)
