I wrote a guide to the different types of dodges and jumps in XMP for my clan, since alot of the players weren't familiar with the movement possibilties of the game. most of these moves come directly from 2K3, however the timing for them in xmp is slightly different.

I've removed some of the more advanced jumps so that anyone new to the game can have fun experimenting and discovering all the true jumping possibilities, not to mention some of them I've never seen performed anywhere accept among the =vD= so in the interest of preserving our trade secrets, those have been left out as well.

Dodges:

1. Dodge - to perform a dodge, simply double tap a direction key IE: forward, back, left or right

2. Sprint Dodge - hold down your sprint key (shift by default) and double tap a direction key

Dodge Jumps:

1. Dodge Jump - dodge in any direction, and immediately after the dodge, hit jump

2. Sprint Dodge Jump - hold sprint, then dodge in any direction, and hit jump immediately

Wall Dodges:

1. Wall Dodge - touch a wall and tap out a dodge in the opposite direction of the wall IE: if the wall is to your left, double tap right etc...

2. Sprint Wall Dodge - touch a wall, and hold sprint, then dodge in the opposite direction of the wall

3. Super Wall Dodge - This is tricky, it's a move originally discovered in UT2K3 that carried over to XMP, to accomplish it, start your dodge tap in the opposite direction of the wall, then hit jump, and then finish your dodge tap to complete the move.

4. Sprint Super Wall Dodge - hold sprint, start your dodge tap, hit jump, then finish your dodge tap in the opposite directon of the wall

5. Jumping Wall Dodge - jump at a wall, and at the moment just before you hit it, perform a standard wall dodge (hold sprint for extra distance)

6. Double Jumping Wall Dodge - double jump at a wall (jump jets) and then perform a standard wall dodge (hold sprint for extra distance)

7. Jumping Wall Dodge Jump - jump at a wall and at the moment just before you hit it, perform a standard dodge jump (hold sprint for extra distance)

8. Double Jumping Wall Dodge Jump - double jump at a wall and at the moment just before you hit it, perform a standard dodge jump (hold sprint for extra distance)

Specialty Jumps:

1. Slope Jump - stand facing a slope or run at it, and dodge into the angled slope, then jump as you hit the slope

2. [edit]all other specialty jumps removed[/edit]

some of the jumps described here require large amounts of sprint and jump jet juice, so before trying any of them, always make sure you're charged up or they may not work as you've seen them on the servers or heard them described ;)

Just outside of curriosty you have some old 2k3 IG players right... if so I think I might know what you are talking about. And its uber if you put speed adren on.

well, I'm not sure if any of the others played 2k3, but I was in a clan that specialized in low grav, instagib CTF, so movement was big among us and using boost jumps and other special trick jumps came in very handy, I made sure to master as many as I could, and luckily for me, most worked in xmp, they just needed an adjustment of timing to get the same results ;)

Yeah, IG LG BR here.

I find though the timming is the closest with the ranger.

You can also boost dodge of certain slope angles if you know it right. ;)

Thanks, i will write or print this. Someone should make a website for jumping and have advanced jumping in it too, it'd be a very usefull link to this community and to all the noobs IMO.

WulfMan,

I would just like to thank you for this post. XMP is my first FPS, therefore I had no knowledge that all those jumping possibilities existed (and didn't know where to look for them). It's been very difficult to find this type of information. Either most people think it's common knowledge or they simply just keep it too themselves. So I really appreciate the time you put into this post.

Now if you could only teach me how to snipe a guy in mid-air while boost dodging in the opposite direction. ie: [xF]Warlock - we were both in the air! :D

lol that's easy, don't zoom, anticipate your motions and lead the target, and pull just before they pass your crosshair as you go by them and you're all set ;)

I'm gonna write these down now and try em all out cuz i'm sick of running out of stamina so fast and when i press the buttons to do the jumps here it just puts me aside alittle.

I'm a ranger so it's ping...i mostly go in rooms with under 200 ping. I need to go back to my old server (but can't cuz it keeps saying connection failed and alot of people there got the same thing), i have no confidence anymore, i play with x1000 more skilled players rather then guys my own or slightly more or less slightly skilled players and now i'm at the point in giving up.

well..in XMP, there are 3 classes...if Ranger doesnt work for you, then try Tech or gunner. Always remember...there is always someone better. just keep practicing and you'll start to catch on. :)

I know exactly how you feel. I've been there myself more than once. Try not to get discouraged. I tend to get that feeling when playing with the guys on MyUnreal. :D Unfortunately the XMP community is pretty small, therefore most of the players still here have become very skilled. Of course some of them owned from the beginning.

Listen to Xaero, try another class, but whatever you do don't quit playing. If you are having trouble with the Ranger class try a tech or gunner. Each class is very important to having a well balanced team. It's been argued that the Ranger takes the most skill so it's probably not the best class to start out.

Another thing to keep in mind is that to become skilled you are going to have to play with players that are better than you. There's no other way to overcome that. You have to pay very close attention to what better players are doing. If you see a good player defending the node, watch how they behave around the node. See where they place deployables, that sort of thing. There are plenty of strategy guides out there for the individual classes. Search this forum for the Tech or Gunner and read up on it.

Also practice your movement. Also practice your movement. Also practice your movement. :)

Learn to sprint dodge at will and never, never stand still or chase a player straight behind him, no matter what the class. If you are going straight at him, you are begging to get slammed.

Good luck,

I didn't mention it in the jump guide, but I guess it's not always common knowledge, the "double tap" must take place within a certain timeframe, it's in the GUI under "Options > Game > Dodging"

the default time is .25 seconds, if you increase that, you have more time to hit the second (or third key in some cases) to register a "dodge". for learning some of these moves I'd suggest a time of .35 or .50 until you get used to it, and then you can always lower the time again once you've mastered it.

be careful not to set it too high though, or you might strafe a couple times to make small adjustments and end up dodging off a cliff ;)

I am playing with mine at 1.00, can i still master it that high? i'm gonna see what i'm like after a week (i practise in every game i play and sometimes in my own server) then gradually lower it...maybe next to .90? and try for a week and a half to 2 weeks unless i master it before that. Dodging is now fun too me unlike when i was frusterated as seen above when i could only do the normal small dodge that didn't do much and today i just started the dodge/jump which makes me go far...my main concern is speed right now (i'm aiming for a speed demon) untill it becomes common knowledge and i bleed dodge outa my a$$. After i'll work on my aim more, i'll be a arti thief :D mind you this wont be anytime soon once this is all mastered.
