I am pretty familiar with UScript, i've decompiled all the code from U2XMP and I've been thinking about getting a new game mode implemented, with the basis of the XMP game mode half included..kind of an assault game mode.

Anyone who is willing to share their knowledge into UScript is very much welcome.

My Idea: Teams have 2 PSU (Power Supply Unit) by default buried deep inside their base. Whilst 1 team defends the other has to reach the others and Hack it, to end the game. The PSU should be 100% hacked the second it's been initiated. End Round. Then teams swap and they take opposite turns.

I'm not sure if this is all entirely possible with the limitations of hosting a Multiplayer Game for U2XMP.

Please post your comments tell me what you think :D

Is Doable

OK This 'game-mode' really is doable, having just woken up I figured it all out.

All I need is a few mappers who can help me test my theory since (for the moment) i'm unable to map what I was hoping to do.

Anyone who's interested add me to their MSN ( [email protected] ) or just come to #xmp.assault on irc.quakenet.org and i'll discuss it with them.

Assault isn't a bad idea at all. At least requires teamwork. If I could map, I would help and support this as much as I could. :)

No offense, but this mod will never survive.

#1: Assault is coming out for UT2004 in a week and a half. This will suck any Assault audience off XMP instantly. I'm assuming you'll need players to make the game mode fun?
#2: Needs custom maps for the game mechanic to work. Creation of maps is very time consuming, so it will never have very many maps.

Hey you can blow your time anyway you want...

...but IMHO if you really want to build gameplay variety in XMP you should always always try to think of new game rules that you can apply to the existing XMP maps, perhaps with gameplay substitutions at the artinode, gens, deploypoints, and resupplypads to funnel the gameplay (since all XMP maps should have those).

Put another way, Team Fortress was prototyped on CTF maps -- and was loads of fun. 2fort4 came later.

Why would everybody start playing UT2k4? There are a lot of XMP players and they will probably..

Xmp will probably be more tactical then the hack-your-way-in UT assault mode

There's been some progress and testing is coming along quite well, currently setting multiple triggers so you have to do a certain objective first etc.

If you want to speak with me come to #u2xmp on irc.gamesurge.net and speak to eVo|ApHeX :) .. If we get enough support we'll branch off and get out own meeting place but for now theres not much point

There is already a way to do this.

Here are the steps.

1. Make a map as normal.
2. Leave out the icon nodes.
3. Place generators where you desire.
4. The winner will be the one that still has energy at the end.

I think that this will be usable.

I know that below may be irrelevant, but it is a tutorial on how to make a level have 8 artifacts.

I'm aware of the 'other' methods, but that can hardly be called assault.

Assault is objective based whereas, "get all the generators" is just what it says on the tin.

You'll see what I mean when we've got something to show for our work :)

Hey stop spamming him. He's actually trying to make something good for xmp whichs future is a bit unsure. Just encourage him to do this.

Hurray for -eVo:ApHeX- ;)

And I really lov the idea. Shame that I have no knowledge of coding/mapping at all :(

How about a "Splat the penguins" mode ? Hordes of penguins are spawned all over a map and each team gets a vehicles and has to run over a maximum of penguins in as little time as possible. The more penguins are turned into roadkill, the more energy a team gets. As soon as a team loses all energy it loses and the other team wins.

Team fortress 2 comes on summer 2004(with HL2)

About bots in XMP - i't essentialy key elements ...
May be :(
Onslaught in 2004 far very complex from one side of view, and have a lot "arcade Q-fight" "look and feel" - fron other.
this is NO WAY to feeel spirit of attack, like UT1999 :|
Mya be in future patches for UT2k4 something will changed ? :)
Who knows ? :)
