I don't even know where to start explaining why this is so WRONG.
Remember that copyright thing ? It was intended originally for protecting artists from greedy publishers who would take their work and sell it as their own and profit from it in their place. It was bastardized when the agents all gathered and formed associations / corporations: they would instead forcefully buy the rights from the artists instead of directly stealing them. Being a monopoly helps, of course. It was even turned into a travesty when they launched "Work for hire" contracts, where the actual authors are entirely deprived of their rights. Here's a hint about why this is wrong: corporations don't have ideas, don't compose music and don't write, real human beings do. And now they're expanding the reach of this travestied concept to leverage more and more control and extort more and more money from the gullible public (the LATSA effect: Look At The Starving Artists!) and from the artists as well (the Blame Pirates! effect). All this in the name of a parody of an already flimsy concept of "copyright". Sheesh

Looks like Canada is going the same France has gone. All recordable media has become quite expensive.
