Do you think that the admin's ability to make you ignore someone is "ok"
I think that it extends past controling of the flow of the forum and into control of individuals. Untill someone is banned/RO everyone should have the right to what that person is saying. I dunno it just seems like too much power to me.
Though it *is* their forum and I guess they control it how they see fit....... Last edited by phil; 15th Jun 2003 at 03:18 AM. |

I don't think it'll be abused. It'll fix some people's little red wagons, Beyond that, may also keep from having to ban some people, but fixing problems anyways.

I can already see where this feature would have come in handy a while ago... I voted yes.

I like it because it controls the whine and bitch level. It helps those of us who are too lazy/stuborn to put that person on ignore ourselves.

Stuborn? Some people *dont* want to ignore someone just because they disagree with them.....They have thick enough skin to deal with OMG oposing opinions.

I think admins will be using it only for dog fights, not tense conversations.

I'm with Phil (shoot me now). He's totally right. It's not their place to ignore people for us. We aren't all minors and we know when and when not to ignore someone. If someone gets to be a pest to me, I will just not pay attention to them and ignore them in that sense. I like seeing what everyone has to say, even if they have been antagonizing me in the past.
It is our choice. I think that if we don't put them on technical ignore, and we continue to argue with them and continue with flame wars, that the person in question should then be temporarily banned or something, but don't take away their rights on who they want to ignore and who they do not. That's wrong if you ask me.

I struggle to comprehend when something like this would be necessary. Maybe if you wanted to shield someone from a specific post/comment but to decide that 2 members can't interact seems off to me

Useful option. Whether we actually use it or not - well thats up to the parties concerned really

In the previous incarnation of BuF I posted a poll asking you folks how many people you had on ignore and the huge majority of people had no-one. Most of the people who voted agreed that it was just the internet and nothing people said really bothered them. Im sure the admins are aware that we are quite capable of making our own decisions and would only implement this new feature as a practical joke or something.
Saying that, it could be useful as an anti-spam measure.

Well, as far as I can tell only admins have this ability (read: not forum moderators) ... and I would think that if anyone abused this feature Pete would break out yellow5's whooping stick and lay the smack down. Personally, it's a cute feature but I don't forsee it ever being used.

phil, we've already been able to do this since ignore lists first appeared in vB 2.0.0, vB3 just makes it a little bit easier.

All it does is add someone to your ignore list. When you see someone's post that you are ignoring, there is a link right there that says "Unignore User." Just hit that and all's well again.

I think that is a crap feature. Just because some mod here doesn't agree with what someone says, why should they have the right to make it so the rest of us can't see it either. That is some whack BS IMO.

They have the right cause they run the place. There's other message boards out there if you don't like it.
Besides if you read my last post you'd see that you can just as easily unignore someone you didn't ignore in the first place. |

I think it's a good thing because it will be a less harsh way of dealing with 2 people who constantly bitch and whine at each other.

yeah. i think this is a good idea
but tell me, is this an auto-ignore (like it just gives you no choice) or does it just add it to everyone's list (then they can remove it) |
