Judge orders MS to reveal code

Ouch.

Quote:
WASHINGTON--A federal judge late Friday told Microsoft it must disclose portions of the Windows source code, including XP and XP embedded, to nine litigating states and the District of Columbia.
IMO i think its a bunch of bullcrap that MS has to do that.

I assume, it's so the States can see if there is ay evidence that MS is locking out competitors...via their coding.

I did notice the judge ordered the source to be revealed to the States, not competitors. I guess MS, or rather their attorneys are trying to equate "States" with "Competitors". But I do understand their anxiety over this order.

ah right i understand that, i can see were the states are coming from with that, but people still buy OS's like Linux and Unix so microsoft cant be doing that much to block out other companies. So i cant see the point with it really

lol, this is the US legal system we're talking about here. If they can try and split up a company, or challenge a government directly via a court case, why cant they do this?

What!?!

MS has been claiming that they can't separate the browser from their operating system - are the State Attorneys General supposed to take their word for it?!?!? Didn't you read about the rigged court demonstrations that MS put together ?

LK - what are you talking about?

I'm saying the US legal system is screwed, but then which legal systems aren't?

Exactly. Microsoft has claimed that it cannot separate IE from the rest of the OS. The states asked MS to prove it by showing them the source.

I think it's fully justified and fair. Hell, MS reveals it's complete source to "partners" on hugely regulated NDA's for a while buttload of money. I don't see the problem here.

Theres a difference between the legal system and the will of the government. The UK government could do a lot to ease the problems BT causes via the courts. They just choose not to.

But when it comes to legal systems, I'd go with the UK

I think it's perfectly reasonable to get proof from the source code to prove/disprove microsoft's claims

Hey, why do they have to reveal code? Is it because they used Linux network code? Because, Linux as open source forbids any company to SELL linux code, and microsoft is doint that with this network code, and the only prove that microsoft used this linux code is if you look in the source.

It's this that makes then having to show the code, right? I hope so at least, I'd love to see M$ having to stop selling WinXP
