Installing Drivers (general question)

Hi.
I was thinking about installing some new drivers on my Geforce. It's been a while though that I've handled this routine. Also, I'm somewhat rusted on these things. It shouldn't be too difficult to do this right, but can someone give me a step-by-step checklist? Just so that I won't screw up..

Luckily the Detonators are simple to install - just download the newest ones and run the setup. No need to uninstall the old ones. The driver setup program automatically updates all the old drivers. Enjoy!

Ditto, graphics card drivers (especially dets) are very easy to install

Well.. whatever. I'm not downloading detonater drivers. :P
I want it the old fanshioned way..

Why dont you want Det, may I ask?

If you want to do everything manually, you can use this guide to completly remove the old drivers.
