what is mouse acceleration?

What is it? Is it on by default in Windows XP? If so how is it turned off(in XP)?

mouse acceleration means that the further you move the mouse, the faster it gets. as far as i know, it's off by default. the option should be somewhere in the mouse section of the control panel
