Your opinion on feigning death?

An easy way to examine the situation is by feigning death (as long as you’re not discovered be an enemy [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img] ). This is quite useful in team (CTF) games however some people think it’s just as bad as camping…

I don’t think feigning death is weak playing, as long as it’s not the substitute for camping in a dark corner. In fact it can be a lot of fun when an opponent is chasing you and you feign death around the corner. The opponent thinks you’re finally death and as he walks by your body you quickly stand up and frag him.

What’s your opinion on feigning death?

Yet to do it [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img] It's one of those features I keep forgetting about. I don't see any "ethical" problems with it, though. It's in the game, and there's even a preassigned bind for it.

I do it all the time, whenever I'm hit with huge lag or the disconnect, I'll feign death in some corner. I don't want to give them free points. [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img]

Ask the carney folk to get it, they're great climbers!

Most of the time when I see a body laying on the ground I gib it just to make sure. I've gotten quite a few kills that way.
The only time I ever feign is to type a message to someone.

If this is the case then you are playing against total newbies. cause if you up against anyone who knows what they are doing, feigning death will do nothing more than give them a free kill. Also, that is the one problem with feigning death, you can't quickly stand up and shoot anyone. It takes like 2 seconds to get to your feet and have a working weapon.

I fell for a feigned death when I was a newbie once. Now, if I see anyone lying around I just blow them into chunks. It's always enjoyable to get a free kill.

If there's alot of newbies playing, and I have to make a quick bathroom exit It usually works, infact one server I played at I feigned death the whole entire match [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img]

The ability to feign death in Unreal Tournament is what really makes the game different from Half Life, Quake 3 etc etc.

Feigning death happens to be a tactical move against your opponents, either to escape death, ambush someone, or just for plain fun(type behindview 1 in your console and watch yourself fall 'unnaturally' on the floor)

This move happens to be closely related to camping, but unlike camping, you are rendered helpless while faking death and might even be fragged before you can get up.

Let's just say that those who overlook the usage of feign death is missing out on alot of the 'tactical fun' of UT. But too many people feigning death can also be a problem, as in my case, I start shooting up dead bodies until their in shreds out of paranoia.

Unfortunately, as advanced as the UT bot AI is, they seemed to have forgotten to allow bots to feign death. I feel there can be more of an impact on the game if the bots were allowed such movement. (Imagine yourself surrounded by a pile of dead corpses when suddenly they wake up - scared the hell out people I feigned death to [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img]

As always, feign death will be one of the greatest things to bless the FPS universe. Now how about some other cool moves such as 'camoflage' or 'espionage' where you can try to blend with boxes or pretend to be on the blue team?

I found that feigning death also works on more experienced players. When you're in a firefight with more than one opponent, sometimes they think their teammate shot you.

This strategy works well in levels like CTF-November, as long as you don't lie on the floor for too long...

In stead of wasting all your ammo on dead body's you can also point on a body with a rocket launcher. If the green dot turns red you've got a feigner on you hands and are free to shoot [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img]

Evil-Gal: by merging/blenidng with boxes and crates etc., do you mean actually adopting their form? That would be quite funny. Imagine defending Overlord against a horde of assaulting wooden crates [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img]

I agree with a few of the others. I use it if I am in the base so I can type a message or run to the restroom. Normally I get back and I am still alive. I would use it cautiously out in the open so to speak. I've never used it to get a jump on people though.

How do I set my laser printer to stun?

One of my regular tactics, especially in CTF. Fun to get into the enemy base when their flag is gone, feign death, then grab the flag as soon as your team scores [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img]

I blast every body in sight, period. The RL trick works well too.

One other thing, don't try to fake out the opposition if you've got the shield belt - DOH! [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/redface.gif[/img]

I was going to go to work today, but the voices told me to stay home and clean the guns.

Feigning death can win matchs in assault. In overlord we couldnt get past the boiler room. I simply busted in there and feigned death. The bloke walked up to my body and walked past me to defend the doorway. I then got up and run away breeching the boiler room in the process. That must of made them wonder!

although i dont do it often, youd be surprised how many times it works to surprise someone. in fact for kicks i feigned death in the middle of a room and lived for about half the game, the only reason i died was becuase of accidental splash damage hitting me from battles going on.

course you can only do it once and get away with it, since from that point on paranoia will set in and they will shoot corpses on sight.

It certinally isn't camping, firstly you can be killed while feigning, and you don't gte up instantly, giving an observant player amble time to react. But it is cool.

Just remember, don't feign in Insta-Gib [img]/~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif[/img]
