Is it just me...
or does it seem like UT2 won't be as good as UT?
I know it will rock in graphics, but starting out with every gun? NO ASSAULT MODE? No ASMD Shockrifle? No Pulse gun? The health looks really weird too...

I gotcha... but still, other faults aside, starting out with every gun is just too LMS-ish.
AND ASSAULT DOESN'T SUCK!!!! imho

I've been playing on a pub CTF server lately that's running a mod that gives you all weapons (except the redeemer and chainsaw) with limited ammo. Weapon stay is off (I think). It rocks. You don't have to run around your base after respawning, looking for a particular weapon, or any weapon for that matter. The limited ammo makes you pick and choose your targets or grab some pickups along the way into battle. Gameplay is faster, and better, IMHO.

Regarding starting with all weapons: that doesn't mean they all have ammo at the start.
Regarding the shock rifle: it's tmie to show poor Glob's demise again.

No assault in UT2 .....
I bet that is the kind of stuff that Unreal Warfare is ging to be more about. All weapons at once. Fine by me. I noticed that Malcolm the male commando is looking well good in UT2 mode. I wonder what Kyla is going to look lik ... I'm relaly looking forward to that

Assualt rocks, but it was kinda ahead of its time in UT. I expect you'll see plenty of AS type gametypes soon, but more advanced.
Main thing that killed AS was the maps, it didnt have enough, and it didnt have many maps that could drag out (As Overlord did). Short fast maps like rook are great, but they needed to be mixed with the real epic maps as well. Personally I still remember my first UT days, sitting at the top of the stairs in Mazon holding back a 10 strong attack

i don't know I'm still having fun playing assault .. I do..
Favourites are Mazon (nice level, very nice), Overlord (heh), Coup (... ..), coldsteel, highspeed, frigate etcBut you're right there aren't that many as levels, which is a shame of course. For example: Only 146 as levels on Nalicity...

Now THAT wouldn't surprise me ... I was totally surprised when UT came out. i had hear descriptions of it inthe PC zone and I must admit, Ihad been a bit bothered ...'wot, no story-line' I had said to myself 'this is un heard of. This is impossible. It won't work'
Then I started playing the demo when it came out .... and one minute later, I never looked back. I expect great things from UT2 and I don't expect to be disappointed. |

Don't worry if there is no assault mode... Within a week of release people will have coded an assault gametype with lots of neat features, and if nobody else does, I will, cus it's not all that hard to do.
The problem with assault was the maps. Not that they were bad maps but assaulting a base that is always the same just gets repetetive. Each map has a 'best' strategy to win and defend and since the maps never change everyone uses those strategies and the rounds are over in 30 seconds as people do all kinds of rocket jumps at the exact angle to get right into the end room and crap. Don't worry, I've got this problem covered too
