# of people killed by handguns (per capita) in sweden < # of people killed by handguns (per capita) in USA.
Yes, it's a good thing.
The idea that "I need a gun to defend myself from everyone else who has a gun" is not only illogical but will also create a recursive situation, like the one in the US.
The idea that "I don't need a gun, because noone will attack me" is more convenient.
Instead of arming, shouldn't one try to change the attitude of the society? It's better for a civilisation in the long run if people have respect for eachother instead of hate.

Guns laws are crazy, criminals will always have guns. If i'm hellbent on killing somebody me having or not having a gun won't be an issue there are too many ball bats, knives, pipes, etc. etc. ( get the point) laying around to use...
No, they won't.
If they're in some kind of gang or maffia, maybe, but Achmad who lives in the bad side of my town will just have to do his gansta-wannabe stuff without the gun, because, unless he has some connections, he won't get his hands on a weapon.
A leaking roof is better than no roof at all.
Organized criminals might have guns, but still, unless they're psychotic, they don't want to kill the agerage Joe, they just want his dough.
Also, if guns are outlawed, you're sure gonna notice a guy carrying one.
If you attack me with a knife, I run, what are you gonna do?
If you attack me with a gun, even if I run, I'm toast. See the difference?
If I don't run, I can block a bat, a knife, a pipe and get a way with it, but have you ever tried to block or dodge a bullet?
What kind of sick society do you have if you're constantly afraid of being killed?
