Just want to say that I am getting this same stuttering problem. Nvidia has acknowledged it, and is telling us the fix wil be in drivers 173 or 174 (of course, that's what they said about 171). I hope it's fixed before we get to the two year mark.

nvidia tells this for so long !
I got 8 mails about this same matter.
But they do nothing, till now.
More than a year, it is rediculous !
Make an expensive graphic card that cannot play some older games on xp !
i would say, welcome at the club;)

8800 gt here and no noticable studdering. of course.. i only play rankin deathmatch online anymore..

but sometimes, very rarely, my framerate will drop to about 5 for 5-10 seconds.

yeah rankin is usually ok, only has some fps issues, which just about every map does. no mad stutter like some though. Try Trainingday or albatros. However the fact is that my old graphics card played it much better, now I've spent $400 on a new card and my performance goes down. Where is the justice in that? It is not right however you look at it, and its not just ut2004, plenty of mods or games built on the same engine.

oh noes, just tried citadel and yeah its almost unplayable with the studdering. it should be noted that low framerate and studdering are different. i was running it at about 100 fps but every second or two it would lock up for a fraction of a second.

yeah im running xp

this makes me sad :| i have a tournament coming up this weekend! what to do :X

I just tried Citadel and it ran fine without stuttering. Kinda odd how the issue is so random. :/

I'm running ForceWare 169.21.

No problems there either.

That's probably why Nvidia hasn't fixed the issue -- they can't figure out why some people have it and others don't.

Nvidia isn't worried cause they don't care for much aside from crysis. 1 or 2 more frames in 1 game is much more important than a smooth and steady framerates in many.

I don't believe there will be any problems if you play UT2004 with a 8800GT,hey it is Nvidia and UT2004 is optimized for Nvidia VGAs.I'll still play UT2004 when I get my new system.:)

No, UT2004 doesn't even need an 8800gt, and most are not having issues running UT2004.

Meanwhile, Crysis is bleeding-edge technology, something that sales their new GPUs.

No one would buy an 8800gt just for UT2004.

Does Epic still support UT2004?

"most" are not having problems? I guess you haven't googled, or even looked on nvidia's own forums. This problem is far from being one that inflicts only a select few people and cards. It effects ALOT of people and can happen with ANY geforce 8, and apparently even 9, cards on XP.

And just cause ut2004 doesn't need an 8 series card to run it does NOT make it ok to leave such a huge issue unfixed in it, and other ue2 games, for so long. Sure gamers may buy a new gpu for new/upcoming games but they also expect another thing at the same time. And that's to still be able to play other games they currently own that have been out for a while and are still good.

haha T2A. Just can't get enough of that can you?

anyways, I have an 8800GTS and the stuttering was horrible until I started playing with weapons hidden. After hidden, the stuttering was basically gone. Dunno if that was the real reason, or if I tweaked some other setting and thought the weapon view setting was what fixed it.

8x supersampled AA, and all the other goodies on the highest, 170fps or so, 70-80fps with lots of bots on open maps. :)

Either way, it's working here. :p

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. Can you imagine how pissed I was when I slid my $500 brand-new 8800 into my box, and found out that I got higher frames, but overall worse performance than my old 7800? I thought the damn thing was broken at first. I hope you've got Vista.

This issue was fixed in Vista a long time ago. It has remained in XP from launch to this day.
