If I wanted to take a break from Unreal Tournament play, what are some good games that are more relaxed and a bit slower paced.

Sometimes I get tired of in your face shooting all the time and was wondering if there are some different types of games that don't require so much precision skill as UT and most of the other FPS games.

I played Guild Wars for just a little while back in 2005 or 2006 but not long enough to get to know it. I'm just wondering what different gametypes are out there that are not FPS.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Prozac:)

Well what kind of games do you like to play? Do you play mostly online or offline? What kind of game would you absolutely not like? What have you already played?

Thanks Hal for your reply. I've played mainly FPS like UT2004, UT3, Half Life2, FEAR, Painkiller etc. Games like UT2004 require a lot of skill to play competitively online and I just don't have the time required to practice to feel like I'm having any fun anymore. I like to play online and offline as well, but I want to play to escape and relax - this would naturally include playing a game that has a slower pace and requires less precision skills than the FPS games I've played.

The only other 2 I just barely got into were: Guild Wars, and WOW (I didn't like the idea of having to pay a monthly fee to play online - but that's another topic) I would absolutely not like another shooter. I have COD4 and another COD disc unopened on my pc desk.

I hope I've clarified things a bit, Prozac

The two games I play the most are Left 4 Dead (pretty mindless and spammy, but fun) and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (RTS). I play the latter offline just to relax.

What about more casual games like Peggle, World of Goo, or any of those Darkdrium just linked to?

Fallout 3 is a lot of fun and you can kind of go at your own pace. There's even an option to make it kinda turn-based instead of first-person. Mass Effect dips into the action genre, but isn't hectic.

For single player, Deus Ex. Play at your pace and style and it's just an overall awesome experience that anyone who calls themself a gamer should enjoy and/or respect.

Also a beta for one of its graphics improvment mods, New Vision, is coming out on the 27th, not sure how much it improves since it's just a beta but you can take advantage of it and also add some other graphics mods that are in beta like HDTP.

Oh yeah and you'll be in the loop for when Deus Ex 3 comes out if you plan on trying it. Please don't be horrible. :(

If you follow the link on that page to their forum one of the first threads says the beta will be released on the 27th.

You can get the HDTP beta here:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/project-hdtp/downloads/hdtp-release-1

Though that doesn't change many graphics right now, just some boxes, plants, and 2 guns I think.

I'm hoping the New Vision beta will have a more noticeable graphics impact.

If you've already played Deus Ex before though, there is the Revision mod which keeps the story but changes the maps around to refresh the exploration.

That's in beta also but the beta release has like half of the maps finished. :p

That beta was released in Jan this year so it's new content if you've checked out Deus Ex mods before.

If you want a really, really good, laid-back game, which isn't a shooter but has a bit of action to it, Knights Of The Old Republic is a real classic that should fit the bill perfectly. Lots of people like Mass Effect but I could never get into it; I'd definitely recommend the older game over it.

Like Kantham said, Dawn of War 2 is awesome, but it's pretty frenetic (if you don't abuse the pause button like I do :p) and requires some precision.

Seeiing that you like rol, you should definetly try oblivion. Is slow paced, you have a big, beauty world to explore... but its first person. (you can put on third person), and has lots and lots of porn mods! :D

I have finished recently Assasinns Creed and its decent.
Also, RTS games have a long learning curve but are fun. You could try starcraft, is cheap and you will be able to be prepared for the inminent starcraft2.
