Does enabling "hardware physics" currently make any differrence in-game if you do not have a PPU?

It might if you have a 8800 of some flavor... I think I heard that the 8800s can offload spare power to the card's universal shaders... but I don't think so, really.
You really don't gain too much by having a PPU for UT3 though, unless your CPU is slightly less than snuff. A decently fast Intel Dualcore (or a good AMD dualcore) should be more than enough for everything but those insanely destructable PhysX maps.
