It is not an assumption. Scientists have observed that average temperatures have gone up around the globe in the past several years. It's an observed phenomenon, it is happening.

It's true, the earth is flat. Scientist have proven it true!

"It's true, if you remove 'bad blood' from an individual and replace it with 'good blood,' then it will heal them."

"Ooops, sorry Mr. President, I guess we'll need to call John Adams now."

there's a difference between "observe" and "proving true" just like there's a difference between brushing your teeth and pulling BS out of your arse :)

I think you should start brushing your teeth!

Wow, TWD actually has a blog full of this crap :) "We only have hints and pointers and no hard evidence, so it isn't happening".

I won't argue over the internet about this, it's kinda pointless and the fronts are too rigid. Either you believe that our actions have an impact on the environment, or you don't, period. I don't understand how you can possibly believe they don't, but I guess it has got to do with all-pervasive belief in capitalism being the end cure for everything, and the disbelief in externalities - which even and particularly after studying economics (admittedly only as tertiary subject at Uni) I can't understand at all.

In my opinion and in the opinion of many others, the whole global warming thing is pretty much a hoax. Climate changes are cyclical, and on this cycle, some politicians are once again using this for their advantage.

Arguing whether we caused global warming. Pointless.
Also, Hotair.com how clever.

http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/article/CA6489187.html
LOL Al Gore. Yes, we know Al Gore is a prick stop lending credibility to him by trying to debunk him.

Also, more arguing about human involvement in global warming.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/03/070315101129.htm
Discussions on global warming often refer to 'global temperature.' Yet the concept is thermodynamically as well as mathematically an impossibility, says Bjarne Andresen, a professor at The Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, who has analyzed this topic in collaboration with professors Christopher Essex from University of Western Ontario and Ross McKitrick from University of Guelph, Canada

Any idiot knows that the temperature differs based on location. What kind of retard publishes an article about this crap? But there's a huge difference between that and saying that the general trend of temperatures around the globe, and specifically in the area where large amounts of ice are currently built up at the poles, has tended to rise over time.

Glen Beck HURRRR said:
"The next time they tell you that global warming causes all sorts of massive natural disasters, you say 'Really? That's interesting because I heard somewhere, I'm trying to remember, that deaths per year from extreme weather are down 95% since the 1920s'."

What the hell does that even mean? Extreme weather? A lot more people died from 'extreme weather' in the past because we didn't have the technology to prepare against and defend ourselves from such events.

Glen Beck HURRRR said:
Why is it that the scientists are all in on this? I mean so many people are in on the global is warming is real and we gotta stop it right now.

Wow, just wow. Tinfoil hats, engage. Then Coleman descends into a discourse on human impact on climate.

Let me reiterate something here... WHO CARES WHAT CAUSES IT? IT IS A CONFIRMED OBSERVABLE PHENOMENON HAPPENING OVER THE COURSE OF DECADES AND IT HAS REAL CONSEQUENCES FOR THE ENTIRE PLANET.

I find it funny that this a-hole is on CNN saying that scientists have an agenda and are trying to make money... while he's plugging his god damn book.

In my opinion and in the opinion of many others...

Are you a scientist? If not then tell me why your opinion matters?

And I generally share Steyr's stance on this. I don't care what causes this stuff to happen. It just irritates me that so many of you (and by you I mean the yous on both sides of this bitching pole) are doing exactly what Politicians want you to do and argue about this as if any of you really know what's going on. You both cut each other down, accusing each other of being stupid and nearsighted...and then have the hysterical irony to call each other "sheep".

What bothers me about this 7 Manhattan chunk of ice falling into the ocean is that, we don't have a plan if a bigger one falls off tomorrow. That's the only issue anyone should be complaining about.

We KNOW it doesn't happen every year. Dude, seriously, like I expected a bit better than that kinda dumb statement from you.

Then I'm sure you'll have absolutely no problem finding me data to prove it :)

I'm not going to sit down and say that I have definitive proof one way or another. However, I am going to say there there is very convincing data coming from both sides. I think it naive to sit around and say things like sorry this has been proven you must be stupid or something. Just because the media hasn't accurately represented both sides of the debate, doesn't mean that you are right. Anybody that is knowledgeable on the subject should be able to admit that the "fact of global warming" is in serious dispute.

Where least expected
SlayerDragon: It doesn't matter who caused it, we should try and fix it!
Jonathan: You say we are the reason it is happening

Wait, did someone quote Glen Beck? The guy that said the world was going to end on August 27 and thinks that the government cause 9/11?

The United States of Holland.
global warming? I don't mind that at all!
You see, when a country like Holland is going to flood because of Antartica melting, I can do all sorts of fun things...for exmaple swimming to work instead of taking the car. Holland will be like one giant Venice

I'm pretty sure I've heard Glenn Beck ridicule 9/11 conspiracy nuts. I have no idea what the August 27 thing is about.

Damn, well said

On topic (and off the ridiculous argument), I caught this story on the primetime last night and was pretty amazed, even a little shocked at the sheer mass of the iceberg once I saw the videos. Surely this is NOT good thing regardless of why we think it has happened. I don't recall having ever heard of a mass even half this size breaking off all at once like that, the whole idea is very... unnerving.

Prophet is on the money, what we should be worried about is the problem at hand. Things are being done, albeit slowly, to try and counteract the effects that our presence has on the earth but those are very long term goals as far as seeing a difference goes.
For now it should probably worry us a lot more what this means for the present if similar or larger pieces begin splitting away in the near future.

I wasn't aware that I need to pay obesience at the altar of modern science, which will do nothing but refute itself over and over again.

You'd be better off looking to history, as history will tell you what will happen in the future.

That is one hell of a large iceblock.

The movie Day After Tomorrow springs to mind. It's not so much what caused it to happen but more what effects this type of shedding of polar ice may have.

You made the assertation. You're the one that needs to back it up.

Also, Iron Archer, you clearly know very very little about Britain's healthcare system, and if you think ours is broken, then yours is ****ing retarded.
