Why?

AMD 1GHz
512MB (PC133)
Color Power (nVidia TNT2, 32MB)
Win98SE
Seagate 20.5GB, ATA66 (7200)
SB Live Plat. 5.1

All goodies OFF
Low detail/Low sound
1024x768
D3D (tested new OGL drivers, but poor result)

(FPS from my memory, tested it y-day)
Min=~28
Max=~94
Avg=~55

OK, what am I doing wrong? Is it my GIC that blows?

I've done all the tweaks I found out there.
There are comps with "worse" specs than mine, but still with much better FPS.

[Edit] Forgot to ask this n00b question: what is FSAA?[/Edit]

Hej Tinman!
What drivers do you use for your card?
You can get nvidias ref. drivers here.
They are all beta drivers but most of the people use them. I use one from the 6.xx serie.
About FSAA, Full Scene Anti Aliasing, you can read about it here. A very good article. It gives a good description about what FSAA is.
And of course we have the geforcefaq

Tjena Swedix! :)
And thx for the links.

I use the 7.52 (I think it was)
I saw the 1.xx were mostly for GF3, but they work OK for TNT2?
Is there any way I can turn this FSAA on?

I thought my FPS would speed up a lot since I got my PIII450 (384MB, PC100) upgraded to this new rig. :(

I quote myself from another thread were I did some benchmarking on my own:

I did some "benchmarking" on my own.

My spec:
Mobo: ASUS CUSL2
CPU: PIII 700@875
RAM: 192 Mb PC133
Graphic: Outrageous GeForce 2 GTS 32 Mb (not o/c) Have flashed the card with Nvidias ref. BIOS 3.15.00.12
Sound: SoundBlaster Live Value
OS: Windows ME and DX 8.0a
UT: 4.36 1024x768 32Bit Color

I run through Cityintro 5 times and took an average.

I used detonator 6.67 WHQL, 7.52 and 10.50

Result:
6.67 min=41.80 max=87.65 avg=66.42
7.52 min=41.61 max=88.03 avg=66.49
10.50 min=40.40 max=86.08 avg=64.94

You can make your own conclusion.

There ain't so big difference between the drivers.

About the fsaa, I don't know if your card support it, if it does it's somewhere in the preferences for your card.
I'm at work now so I can't check were it is.

Thx again, Swedix.
I'm gonna try the new 7.58 beta drivers, to see if it can crank it up sumthing.
Where can I find the BIOS-file?
I looked at 3DChipset, but the BIOS page wasn't working.
Can I even flash the BIOS on my TNT2?

I decided to give this a try.

PIII 450
Asus Geforce(1) 256 DDR 32
20 Gig Hd
192 Meg ram

UT 436

800x600
High Details everything on
Min=24.25
Max=60
Avg=43.5

800x600 W/O Lighting
Min=25.96
Max=60.36
Avg=47.79

640x480
High Details everything on
Min=26.38
Max=60.32
Avg=43.02

I usually run 800x600 and don't have any complaints with these frames. I've read through this and seen some pretty high numbers. For those of you that have started with numbers like mine and then upgraded to bigger systems. What is the difference like? Is it a big deal? Just curious. Thanks

Naa, it's not a big deal.
I started with a PIII 450, 384MB (PC100) and I've upgraded to an AMD 1GHz, 512MB (PC133).
The diff ain't worth the cost. At least not for me.

As for my FPS, I found a neat lil proggy called TNTclk, which cranked my FPS up to:
Min: 34.28
Max: 112.8
Avg: 64. 73

w00t! :)

I even tried without lighting and was given an extra 20! FPS.
The game looked quite awful tho, so I won't use it.

Hi Blistering_Pants,
When overclocked my PIII600E to 800, I got 15 FPS more from 54 FPS to 69 FPS (1024x768x32) with Geforce2 GTS 32 MB. Min FPS also increases from about 33 to 39 in Cityintro.
I think your vid card is capable with higher FPS. So upgrading your CPU to GHz will show a big difference. 90 FPS should be expected.

New drivers

Ok, installed the newer drivers from 3dfxfiles (v. 4.13.01.oo27) and got a whopping 2fps increase. Still think I should be getting better..

Everything on high detail

Min 29.8
Max 86.4
Avg. 49.07

It looks like its time to o/c and add 256MB of PC133 RAM
Any suggestions why I'm not going any quicker??

Whoops, that ain't good. Drops all the way to 10 sometimes, never goes over 30. But then again It's running almost at max:
Sys specs:
1,2 Ghz AMD Athlon
256 MB RAM
Geforce II MX
SoundBlaster Live! 1024
Some ASUS motherboard and hella fast HD (7200 RPM, dunno what that means)

Game settings:
V436 OpenGL: S3 metal textures on
Everything at high, even sound's at 48000
surround, also downloaded EAX update.
I think the only thing not turned on is weapon flashes :)
resolution = 1024 X 768

Mmm, maybe I should turn something off? :D

Gotta keep this thread going...hehe

Here I go...

Coppermine 850
Abit sph6 version one motherboard
256meg pc100 ram
Maxtor 15Gig HDD (swap file set to 1000MB)
TNT2 model 64 (32meg)

UT runs in 1024x720, World and Skiin detail set to High
detail textures off, 16bit color everything else set to on

the final verdict...50fps in the city intro

I personally think it should be higher this is a fairly good system.
