It's an IBM 3380 (2.5Gb), I think. It's not even one of the big boys...

the ability to store up to 2.52 billion characters of information
Nah man:
http://www-03.ibm.com/ibm/history/exhibits/storage/storage_3380.html
1 character requires 1 byte (minimum, can be more depending on format), ergo 2.52 billion bytes. 2,520,000,000 bytes is 2.34Gb. One of the two statistics is erroneous, because it lists it as 2.52Gb in the archive on page four.
IBM's own website claims the 3380 is 2.5GB sure. What makes you so certain that the pictured drive isn't one of the models that came in 1GB? [SARCASM]Same HD design different capacities... cause that never happens. [/SARCASM]You don't think I didn't see that? IBM's own website claims otherwise.

Because there isn't one.
I have a few of the blue-glass versions of these. Actually, I think I just threw them out. yes, I did know what they were the entire time. They are all over the place here at flea markets.

Behold! The new TMNT!
@ [GU]elmer_fud: I used to use one of those insulators as a candle holder, worked pretty darn well.
