OK, Ive managed to drag myslef away from college work to write this, just a short little bit of writing of the history of PuF from my views
-=>A BRIEF HISTORY OF PuF<=-
OK, I brought UT as soon as it came out in the UK. Shortly afterwards i visited Planet Unreal. The reason i went to PU was because i had heard all about Planet Quake, and wanted to try see what PU was like. I saw the forums and regisered under LordKhaine and first posted on the 6th of December. At that time the UT forums had just gone UBB. The people who stuck in my mind as *the* people were LiquiD_SiN, Lizard, BadAss and Hal, (probably more that ive missed).
Anyways, i started posting a few replays, nothing much. Then BadAss posted the infamous "See me online see you online, be a PuF'er" thread. The idea being, that members of the PU forums could met up and play UT togethor online. I was one of the first to take up the PuF tag. Shortly afterwards, the IRC channel was started, and people started putting the PuF tag and meeting up for games. The first PuF'er i ever met online was BadAss on a game of Lava giant. Where i was astounded by the amount of speech binds he used. In fact, you could even say he was partly responsible for the 36 speech binds I now sport /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif
Within a few weeks of PuF being fully up and running, the first Euro meetings started, every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30pmGMT, Euro PuF's played on UK and Europian servers, further enforcing PuF.
Within a short space of time, several PuF skins were made and the PuF web site was lauched by LiquiD_SiN. PuF was ever growing and the number of posts was ever increasing on the PU UT forum. Then came what could be called the begining of the end /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif. The OzUT vs PuF match. The tryouts happened and the meetings occured, and the players for the home and away games chosen. Then came the match. The first 3 games were to be held in the US, the last 3 in Oz. I took part in the home games, which were well played by both sides, with us eventually winning all 3 matches. These matches were fun, and every one enjoyed themselves. So far, so good.
Then came the away game, both teams warmed up, and the match began in November, with the Oz in Blue, and the PuF in Red. Within minutes the OzUT were storming ahead, and halfway through the game, most of the PuF away team left complaining about bad pings. The match fell apart despite a few PuF modemers trying to keep things going. In the ensuring descussion in #planetunreal, several members of PuF left. And PuF effectivly stalled. No more forum matchs were to take place again for a long time /~unreal/ubb/html/frown.gif, and the loss of several PuF.
Things continued in PuF afterwards for a while, till a new influx of new PuF's joined replacing those who had left. The new person who joined PuF who started the biggest upset must have been Xylene. When she first started posting on PuF she spammed like no other had ever managed. PuF seems to be split between those who would throw them selves in front of bullets to protect her, and those who were astounded by the effect she had on people. Shortly afterwards things went back to normal, as did Xy's post count, and PuF returned to the base level of insanity it normally is.
TC (Team Capture) was formed, consisting of a group of PuF'ers led by Zaccix, who set about making the web site Capture. A web site devoted to CTF, including tactics and Reviews.
After this, the speed on the PuF forums slowed, and PuF started to slowly die out, leaving only an elite selection of die hards left /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif However, just recently a new wave of people have joined, along with the formation of Carpe Imperium (a clan formed form PuF'ers), and the launch of Capture. Have resulted in PuF looking as strong as ever /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif
If ive missed anything out, dont shout at me, post a reply and add it in! And if this ever appears to serious, belive me its not! /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif. As 9/10 scientific tests have proved, PuF is only an addition to life, not a whole other alternative to life, as is the Ultima-Online community (/me dons flame proof suit and gets ready for incoming wall of flame /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif) yes ive missed several points out, such as taskmasters epic journey to achieve god-like status. And Roosters recent voyage into Rooster-like status. As well as The Wraith. And of course LiquiD_SiN and Lizard of Oz's disappearance from PuF. Feel free to add your views and anything ive missed out of this truly epic journey of PuF.
PS. This has gotta be the longest thread ive ever posted /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif
