So much negativity in this thread...man, you guys don't even know what you're missing out. But I understand - I was thinking the same way when I was your age: "Yeah I am missing out a bunch of ****ty diapers..."

it's usually an "accident" anyway.

According to my brother in law "you know, sometimes **** happens, and you have a kid"

You mean, sometimes you cum inside my sister and she gets pregnant?
Brilliant. Didn't see that one coming.

Smartest kid I've ever met though, and he loves to play hardcore video games, as much as his mother protests.

Easy fix here in the states... Stop making kids tax-deductible.
It wouldn't be so bad to at least put a limit on the number of deductions you can take for kids. Yo-yos with 14 kids shouldn't be getting 14 tax deductions.

They all think i'm out to lunch because i say you should only have 1 kid because of how overpopulated the world is from people having up to 4 or more kids.

Pro: Slower population growth.
Con: Reduced capacity of active population to support public retirement schemes.

I knew I was starting to get old when meeting girls involved being asked if I ever wanted to have kids :(
For the past 4 months I've been going to therapy, have been out of job, and am on the hunt for a downgrade in apartments. I'm not sure if this is the best time.

I'm not sure what to make of the whole overpopulation thing. Growth is exponential, so even if the world can support a thousand more tokyos, it's inevitable that we will outgrow even that. Residential areas trumps farmland, and it's the type of thing we won't deal with until we're up to our necks with it.

But there have ALWAYS been dumb people and they have ALWAYS been kept in the dark. The fact is, people have WAY more access to information than they have ever had before. And yes, while the number of people that don't believe in evolution is scary, MORE people believe in it than in any other point in history and more and more people are believing in it. Hell, even the Catholic church is on board.

As as for the Mass media "turning" the news into a farce, you seem to have little understanding of the fact that the news has ALWAYS been a farce, with CONSTANT lies, propaganda, even a fake war perpetuated to SELL NEWSPAPERS. People treat propaganda as this unique thing, but it's not, not by a longshot, and we are much better informed than previously. Finally, while the gap between the rich and the poor continues to rise, which is a worrying prospect, it has done so (and been higher) before, and then been rectified. Even with such gaps the poor are able to (as a rule) afford food and housing and care for themselves with luxuries as was never the case in the past, with far longer life expectancies and lower infant mortality rates.

So yeah, there are a lot of problems, but looking at any real span of history we can see that they are getting LESS of a problem and that things are getting BETTER for the most part.

The only thing people use that "way more access to information" for is poking people on Facebook, downloading illegal copies of whatever and watching porn.

Yes, mass media news always had lots of problems. That doesn't mean it's not getting worse. All they do now is, with few exceptions, at best redistributing crappy snippets from news agencies while constantly lobbying politicians for laws that would force Google to pay royalties for news.google.com because otherwise "quality journalism" is in danger of becoming unprofitable. At worst they proof their complete lack of worth by writing something themselves, like when the NY Times called the German Bild a generally reliable newspaper. That's like saying Osama Bin Laden is really Santa Clause.

That the poor live better than before is valid if you compare it to long ago but if you look at the direction things took in the last years it's an observation that can only be labeled with "obsolete" and things will only get worse.
