6th, just visited your site. I'm sorry to spam, too:). Notice you are located in Fort Worth. Interesting! I'm from North Richland Hills, my family lives right down the street from Southwest HS now, and I'm up in Denton.

You guys seem like you have your act together. Maybe I'll try and get in touch one of these days.

I guess I shouldn't rag on you or your clan since I know nothing about you, but wow. Seems a bit intense for me :)

Divided Sky. Being a clan member, you must realize that discipline is important to remaining organized.

Being a captain of ]LoL[, I insist all clan mates address me as omnipotentoverseer. They would never dream of calling me mOrety.

As you can tell by the membership in ]LoL[, they are the most obedient, respectful lot on PuF anyway.

wassup rene :)

the good news is, in general the higher you go up in the gaming ladders.. the less llamas you'll encounter. if you check out the top 20 of ogl or any comparable leagues usually the clans there are very respectable. of course i can think of a few glaring exceptions that i won't name here because i think some of their members post/lurk. ;) every game has its lamers and downsides..

oh yeah not a flame at all just a comment on something you said..

If you gamers EVER expect to get respect for playing 'games' you REALLY need to grow up! Q3 clans have learned this lesson and now it is THE game for tourneys.

i was at the ccc in toronto (and you are a meanie because you didn't say hi to me :( :() and the quake players were by FAR more obnoxious, disrespectful, and rude than the ut guys. sure we were outnumbered but the whole time while i was sitting there staring at the wall all i could hear was random quakers shouting, swearing, calling each other fags homos motherf*ckers you name it. maybe at a semi-private lan party that wouldn't be as bad.. but it was in a pretty nice hotel with lots of people who weren't there for the tourney. you could hear people screaming and shouting even if you weren't in the main room.

i can't imagine seeing people act like that doing much for the image of a gamer, hell as a fellow gamer it still wasn't a great impression for the first lan thing i've ever attended. imagine what the other people in the hotel must have thought to see screaming clusters of testosterone-filled teenagers walking about cursing and whatnot. ;)

i feel bad for you and brainfire and whoever else had to organize the thing after seeing the kinds of people you dealt with. :p

of course my opinion comes from somebody who was there as a minority. maybe if i was a quaker and knew everybody there i wouldn't have been as disenchanted with the scene.

again that wasn't intended as a flame and i truly hope you don't take it as one, just spilling my opinion as i love doing. ;)

m0rety is right! I always respond to his orders with a respectful "Yes Maam!" :p

Actually I respond to almost everything with a happy, "Boom!" That goes for in game, and in real life too. :)

Actually, I have tons of respect for my flatulent Don Knotts-like leader. For example, I would never quote him talking about his personal butt problems in my sig. :p ;)

You da one, captain!!!

Yeah I know. That typo drives me nutz too, but it's the way Y5 wrote it down, so it stays.

Maybe he wasn't talking about chipmunks. Is it possible he's referring to a priest of some religious potato chip sect?

Sorry Jen, not sure if you knew who I was, but I was the head tech there and my time was always divided between about 6 people. Not even time for me to breathe the whole weekend.

Funny when I was entered in the UT tourney too... Getting ready to play... I DON'T THINK SO! We have two people who can't get their mouse drivers to work... Bah! I did get to sleep on Saturday night though. And I think I ate on Sunday. Heh. People probably think I am exagerating, but I'm not at all. I think I am understating the situation. :p

Another note about this thread... Whenever I decide to type in game I always feign death. Usually works too. Except in LMS. ;)

i've seen feign death used very effectively as a strategy. like on face, some guy will snipe from the front of our tower. every once in a while he would feign death so anyone looking up would think that a teammate took him out. i only found him out when i had my rocket launcher pointed at him too long and it locked. hehe.

the funniest is when someone feigns death with a shieldbelt on. doh. :D

oh yeah, btw, your crosshairs freaking rule!

Hi,

I am not a clan member. And for that matter I don't really like clans. I only play on public servers. I have to tell you even the clans that are generally considered to be decent are a pain in the ass.

You want a sob story? How about this. You are a mediocre player who can ONLY play on public servers that only wants to play and have fun. But no. There are clan members on this public server; waisting everything in sight, unbalancing the match (and not caring ... HAHAHA), comboing everything that moves and then complaining about newbie flakkers, seeking revenge against other clan members, trying to impress clan members (I am SOOOO sick of the Kravnos and LJ todies), and on and on. These are the good clans by the way. It's amazing but these guys have crazytrain binds but they forget how to change sides and skill balance teams. Lamers by a different name IMHO.

This doesnt apply to ALL members of ALL clans. I have met and played people that are extrodinary, in clans and out.

But understand this. As a member of the "public", I tell you that UT was designed for the hardcorp (clans), not the public. The public never lasts in a match on PUBLIC servers. For a clan member under these circumstances to be concerned about their treatment in a game designed for them and ignore what they themselves do to the public on public servers is inane.

Of the dozen or so people that I personally know that purchased UT, I am the only one still playing. They HATE you guys. I don't.

Sorry. Nothing personal. But at least you have the option of password protected servers and clan practices and matches. I don't. Matches on public servers ARE NOT CLAN MATCHES. They are the only places some of us have to play. And you are complaining about something some immature clan member said to you? Sorry, but I think if that is why you're leaving, you were leaving anyway.

I appologize for the tone of this post.

Thanks

Jim

Sorry about the rant ... you see I have this exposed dangling nerve and someone just hit it.

I'm certain that I will hear about this, it's ok. Flame me if you need to.

I just wanted to say there is a difference between my experiences with the people at the forums and the clans (and others) on public servers. I WAS talking about the clans in the broadest sense. Don't read this and think I was referring to the forums.

Thanks

Hehe..j/k with ya. I know what you mean (and I'm sure I'm a culprit in some instances too.) I do TRY to help when I notice there are newbies on a server. And if my team is mopping up and I'm one of the people doing the mopping, I'll try to switch sides.

I think I'm less of a culprit in this though, because I have found a group of servers who's player level is consitantly greater than mine. I think that's important. Not finding a server with better people, but a server who's general atmosphere suits your needs as a player. Add it to your favorites. Play on it regularly. If that one time was a fluke, remove it and find some more. But building a list of good servers is part of the deal. There will always be people who just randomly click on servers, or click on the server that's pinging best for them at any one time. But I think player level and attitude on a server is more important than ping (easy for me to say, being on cable I guess :)). Sure, even the good servers will have those hardcore players show up that will sweep the map. But chances are, those people are just passing through on their way to another server. Often, when I'm needing work on a specific map, I'll hunt that map down. Sometimes it's a server full of "newbies", sometimes I feel like a newbie. (I just realized I'm using the term newbie here, when what I mean is less skilled player..please find/replace all instances of newbie with the phrase "player of less skill". Thank you:)). So yes, I might "ruin" the enjoyment of the game for one map or so, but if I do an overrun there, chances are it won't be added to my favorites, and you can be sure I won't be back on purpose.

BTW, Jim: This post is more of a commentary and wasn't in any way directed at you. Bah...I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm saying.

Hey,

.... you leet clan guys can just ... oh, is that you soul? Thought it was a leet clan guy. j/k.

I agree with you. It's a "make the best of it" situation. I just wish some of those guys would just stay on their password protected servers sometimes. The BEST matches (teamplay etc) that I have been involved in had zero clan players.

It's true that the better players usually end up in clans. They also usually end up with either attitudes or the overpowering need to prove themselves at all cost. I remember playing many games with a guy called Encognito. Great fun. He balanced matches etc. Then he joined bp (I think it was bp) and it appeared that he had become fixated with points and performance. He was still the same guy, (he still seemed nice), but he played the game differently.

Sorry to mention Encognito. In all the matches I played with him, they were good experiences.

I just wish there were pubbies out there for pubbies. It is an unwritten rule (sort of) that once you become good you must play in a clan. LSD even got DDUNK. (I would have sworn that he would remain a bachelor forever).

Thanks

speaking from first-hand experience, after a certain point, people feel like they would get more out of a clan than playing on the pubs. i've been in a few games where it was pretty clan-like. 5 v. 5, coordinated attacks, strategy... no matter how much people on pubs click, you will not get the same experience as playing a map you've practiced with your clanmates. strategy then involves everyone and not just you.

i can spam "i need some backup!!" all i want, but it gest frustrating when my teammates on a pubbie aren't organized enough to get good cover going.

so clans just aren't for the pompus and arrogant, they actually serve a legitimate purpose for those who want to get something out of the game they can't get on pubs. :)

Hi Hobart,

I agree with you as far as some clans go. Problem is, I never see the side you are referring to. I only see the "after the clan match lets go have some fun on a pubbie" side. I LOVE teamplay and miss it as well.

I try to respond to team mates. Even if I just see that someone has the flag I'll go, unless I'm the only defender or I'm in some stuff right then. I am the biggest defensive squeeler online I think. I have played under different names and people still know it's me from my binds. (hydro and november mainly).

It's not all black and white of course. But,for example, my best pinger is WW. Which in the last several weeks has become the private point hunting grounds for {DJ}LJ. I talked to him last night. He is a much better guy than that. But for some reason he seems obsessed with points right now. No fun games for me at WW for a while I think until the old LemonJello of Jamison comes back.

Thanks
