I would become a professional video game developer and spend my days slowly going insane.

What he said :)

But along with being a game designer (which thankfully is a reality)
I would like to be a pro drummer, but don't have the time. I have been on stage a few times and it's great to jam, would like to do it more and get paid for it.

somewhere; sometime?
I like where my life is going right now...
...but if I could do anything?

I'd definitely become an astronaut.
there's nothing else you can do anywhere on earth to simulate the experience of a an actual spacewalk. I wanna' be that guy floating around miles above the atmosphere, traveling a hundred-thousand miles an hour, hanging onto one of those giant solar panels of the international space station.
looking down you see your only home, it seems so large, yet you know it's so small. looking up and around, all you see is the vast blackness of space, uninhibited by the atmosphere and light from earth you can see every star and the curve of the galaxy.

meanwhile everyone else is stuck in the 9-to-5, driving in their car, working in their office, stuck with their gravity.

I'd like to create a comic book... or Illustrate professionally.

Either that or i guess it would've been nice to just be able to afford to be totally self sufficient anywhere in the world so i could just "wander" but now i have a son my main priority is forging an honorable, morally sound Being to plant into society and achieve his own dreams.

And since you're so far above them you'd have the added benefit of being able to cover several million of them at once with a single pointing of the finger as you laugh at their futility.

...what would it be?

Are you doing it now? If not, why not?

I've often considered selling everything I have and taking off. Just picking a direction. Staying in a city a week. Working at crap jobs wherever I find myself to keep up the traveling habit. Befriending all whom I find, from hobos to businessmen, getting their views on this thing we call life and imparting a little positivity.

What would you do?

Make Video Games!!!

Good answer!

As long as we're going off completely into fantasy land, I'd like to be the geologist sent on the Mars mission which will probably happen sometime within the next decade. :B Who doesn't dream about going into Space?

Some ideas that come to my mind are being able to randomly crash in and interrupt TV programs, do some humanitarian work, do some game stuff, be a superhero, and not needing to sleep because I'll probably be too busy with all of the above.

Though Jack's idea of being a daring astronaut sounds good - it'd just be more in the vein of being Captain Kirk, Han Solo or something similar for me. The idea of adventuring across the galaxy banging hot alien chicks is quite appealing.

I could set a world record for flipping the bird to over a billion people at the same time. I'd just have to wait for the shuttle to pass over India and Asia; nothing against Indians and Asians but I'm going for the record here.

assuming we have the funding and public support to sustain a project which will most likely take another decade or 2 to complete.

try telling that to this guy

You can be anything you want to be
Just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be
Be free with your tempo, be free be free
Surrender your ego - be free, be free to yourself

Seriously, I would do porn.

I'm enjoying myself here in LA. I moved out here about 4 months ago, and I have to say I love it and hate it. Mostly love. Sometimes it's unbelievably annoying (drivers, parking, cost of living) but where I live and the people I work with aren't too bad. I'd have to say I'm pretty happy.

We've got some really good answers thus far. My favorites:

Id dissapear off to maybe cambodia, and quietly make just enough guitars to scratch a living.

I would retire from my job at my current age of 22. I would also move my wife and myself to somewhere.... less hot than a dry, dead valley in California, where I could work on music, cars, and photography.

Ahhhh, sipping vodka and lemonade during breakfast on a nice secluded beach.

Man I sound like a chick.

And Jacks, purely for this line:

meanwhile everyone else is stuck in the 9-to-5, driving in their car, working in their office, stuck with their gravity.

To those with these kinds of dreams, I encourage you to throw away everything else (it doesn't compare to what you could have), even if you've convinced yourselves it's too late to begin again. And to those who dream of financial success, I urge you to dream bigger:

A businessman was at the pier of a small coastal fishing village when
a tiny boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the boat were several
large fish.

"Fine catch," said the businessman. "How much time did you spend catching
them?"

"Only an hour," replied the fisherman.

"Why do you not stay out and catch more fish, then?"

Surprised at the businessman's question, the fisherman answered: "I have
enough for my family."

The businessman had a plan. "What do you do with all your time?" he asked.

"During the day I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children and take a nap
with my wife. In the evening I stroll into the village where I sip wine and play
music with my friends. I have a full and happy life."

The businessman scoffed. "I am a very educated man, well qualified to
explain how you should operate your business. You should spend more time
fishing and buy a bigger boat with the extra money you earn. The bigger
boat will allow you to catch more, and eventually you will have enough money
to build a fleet of fishing boats. You would no longer need to sell your fish so
cheaply to a middleman. You could control the product, processing and
distribution. You could leave this village and move to a large city, where you
will oversee your expanding enterprise."

The fisherman asked, "But sir, how long will all of this take?"

"15 or 20 years."

"What then?"

The businessman laughed. "That's the best part. When the time is right you
could sell your company, becoming very rich."

"What then?"

"Then you could retire. You could move to a small coastal fishing village.
During the day you could sleep late, fish a little, play with your children and
take a nap with your wife. In the evening you could stroll into the village to
sip wine and play music with your friends. You could have a full and happy
life."

As of October 1st I reduced my working hours to 14 a week (I'm an all-around graphic/video/web designer for a small development/DBA firm). I just got a passport application today.
