My point before was there are some people that are bothered by characters murdering eachother in a spectator bloodsport and shouting lewd profanities. Getting rid of skin is probably the easiest thing to get rid of without losing the unreal feel, however. From all of the concept art shots I have seen they are putting limits on the amount of skin being shown, but I really don't know. And I think the limited amount concept art I have seen so far does bare very little skin. Nothing I have seen so far can be related in any form to characters running around half naked, imo.

I haven't done a survey or anything, but my guess is the majority of people bothered by bare cleavage intentionally being put in a computer game, because the artist went out of his way to portray the sexiness of the female character, are ruled out of the equation once we get into a first-person shooter with profanity, carnage, a spectator sport theme, a war theme, a scifi theme, and everything unreal.

I don't see anything wrong with healthy looking sexy female characters airing a little more skin than their male counterparts. The female character's physique and skinny form is already unrealistically uniformly taking the same amount of damage as her male counterparts who possess much a better physique and build.

If you don't want sexy vixens in the game, then say so. No need to say" why are females showing more skin?" IMO, I find a sexy theme with regular amount of skin showing not even as close to as lewd as a sexy theme with full body bondage armor.(anti-bikini comparison) If you don't want a sex theme say so. Complain about penis shapes laying around maps and in the weapon art. Complain about characters looking too "sexy" and etc. Complain about the characters shouting lewd profanity.

It's a lot broader than the female characters showing more skin.

why not make the player move slower and jump lower every time the pick up ammo.and while were at it, make health packs come into effect over a period of months. oh any whats so real about coming back after you die? i say remove the whole "respawn" thing. thats just not realistic. while were at it, who can survive a single rocket blast? or more than 2-3 bullets in the gut? so what if its just from a minigun.

ye, the thing about this game is that you dont have to take into acount every little detail. double jumps, being able to fall more than a few meters without breaking yer legs, and such, while it could be changed to be more realistic, unreal is about GAMEPLAY. to focus on every detail would kill the game.
besides, sum1 would make a skin wil no armor at all, i assure you.
and while it shouldnt have to be skin everywhere, it shouldnt have to be armor everywhere either.

The majority of female gamers play the Sims, while the rest of that majority plays crappy in-browser games like Bejeweled. There already aren't many female UT gamers, and when you look at the few of those few that are offended by cleavage and I'd guess you're looking at maybe... one person. I doubt the loss of that one sale is gonna hurt the extra sales they make from the other gender by making the women half naked. :D

The Egyptian dude in the last two pictures is frigin sweet. Also, Lauren made me realize another reason not to wear armor. If you’re in combat where you have to be nimble and agile, armor would just slow you down and limit your movement. I’m sure I could find several real life cultures that either at one point didn’t wear armor, or to this day still don’t wear armor in combat.

They're majorly toning down movement in the next UT. Besides, even being agile wont protect you from heat and shockwaves.

True I suppose. How about a heat resistant body suit? Something sleek, elegant, yet light and flexible, that could work. ;) (God i worry about some of my posts, they almost sound gay sometimes. :p)

THANK YOU, see now thats a good point, almost everything else that everyone else said was meaningless in comparison. Whats the point of Epic toning down the sex appeal of the game to suit a community that practically doesn't exist?

If people are still bothered that the female characters' sex appeal is excessive, just make it so that the male characters' sex appeal is equally excessive (this doesn't necessarily mean that they have to make the males as naked as the women, it just means that they have to make them as equally attractive to women as the female characters are attractive to the male players). There is no need to tone down sexuality but I suppose that they can equalize the attractiveness of the male and female characters.

WOW... look at the Poll results so far, its almost 50/50.

AND ANUBIS LOOKS AMAZING (hope they put him in UT2007).

Of the people I know, more males are offended by the nekkid than females.

But that's only because no female I know gives a rat's ass, and I know maybe one male who does.

In fact I know a couple who revel in the nekkid female models. But they're just weird, so I won't use them as examples for a counter-argument.

Interesting points, everyone (even though I'm not sure I agree 100% with 'em).

Just so y'all know, here are some interesting statistics from the ESA:

Entertainment Software Association said:
What about Women Gamers?

* Forty-three percent of game players are women.
* Women over the age of 18 represent a greater portion of the game-playing population than boys from 6 to 17 (28% and 21% respectively).

Correct me if I am wrong, but that looks like a poll for games and on-line games in general. About 90% of all on-line game are crap internet games like those on yahoo, and FPS probably only make up about 10% of the online games you buy off a shelf in the store. If you could find a poll specifically for FPS games it would have more sway in people's opinions that woman generally don't play FPS's. Don’t get me wrong, I think woman that play FPS's are the sh!t. I just can't imagine that percent being almost equal to the male FPS players.

most people are NOT getting offended.
well if you are playing a game, and after you blow limbs off, and transform people into flying peices of flesh, THEN you get offended by showing skin? (and not even the parts, just plain skin..) obviously, nobody is seriously offended, as they are still playing right?

also, its not like EVERY skin is 90% skin. not all of em are girls. besides, even if epic were to make all the female chars nuns, there will be many nude chars made by the fans.

now im not saying make all the models neked, im just argueing against making the all bikinis or all skinless. variety, is what i perfer.

Yeah, I know that it doesn't say anything about FPS games. Sorry 'bout that. :hmm:

EDIT: That said, while I won't argue that FPS are a male-dominated genre as far as players go, I think there's a few more female fans of those games than you think. ;) There's a site I've been to before more than once called "Lady Gamers", and it's aimed at female fans of FPS and action games in general:

http://www.ladygamers.com

This isn't a 100% endorsement of the site (some of the articles they link to contain the kind of oversensitive ranting and stuff that's been discussed here), but I just wanted to let you know that female action game fans DO exist! ;)

P.S. - When I went to edit this post, I noticed that this topic has 100 replies! (101 if you count the first post by the original topic maker!)
