I have it here: http://webpages.charter.net/jhar10/D3D9Drv.dll

Save this in your UT2004/system Folder

In your UT2004.ini change this:
Code:
[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice

To This:
Code:
[Engine.Engine]
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice

You will see some better texture quality, light effects and mipmaps.
But thats what I've seen so far.

Will this work with all UT games: Edit I think it must do thanks for this
i have allways said UT needed an up grade driver for the newer cards after all UT was out in 1999, back then it ran best on Voodo 5.500 card /running on the Glide Drivers, the PIC is a new game type made by by Minister Fish in the UT sectionz threads.

it wouldnt work in every other UT game! It would just make it crash! Why would a game that is from 1999 have DirectX 9 support when it was designed around the time of DX7?
Directx 7 is on the UT cd, if you tick the box to install it , I have ran UT on DX8 , DX9 no probs, its the newer graphics cards that run D3D, the game is not really compatable to,
an example of this is like my card (128mb Asus Nvidia Chipset) when opening the console and going to advanced options the game hangs, with the Glide drivers on older cards there was no hang at all , the game ran vey smooth and with a load of tweaks ,like getting rid of the weapon icon display, i got a very good frame rate. Lots of players switched to the Open Gl -up grade drivers, but for some cards this is no good as well, it can be a bit dark.

There is an OpenGL.dll file that fixes that.

well obviously you can run it on those. That's not what I'm talking about! What I'm taking about is that UT was designed for DX7. Sure you can run it on DX8 and 9 or whatever. It doesnt take advantage of the features of 8 and 9 because it's old, the engine isnt programmed for them.

Precisely <-- so why not up-grade the game via new drivers for the Engine ?

That's not possible. The only way UT is going to use dx9 features is if Epic recodes the engine to use them. It's not as if you can just throw in a "dx9 plugin" and BOOM!, UT blows Doom3/HL2/Unreal Engine 3 out of the water!

I've been looking for this, I'm planning to buy a GF-Fx 5600 pretty soon and I'd want to test it ;]

Now I won't need to use some parts of my guide ;)

It says I'm 'forbidden' to download this DLL file, and I'd like to try it as UT2004 crashes randomly with the current D3D drivers, and the new DLL was removed with the newer patches, and I don't want to risk ruining the game by installing and OLDER patch over a newer one....

Is there someplace else I can get this file, and is it all I need to run with the D3D9 drivers in UT2004? (and where do I put it - the system folder?)
