Nice processing 007Mike.:) I like how it really highlights the details, but not over doing it.

I recently hanged out with a friend from Flickr for the first time in person.

I would really like to see some of these photos without this process done. Just for kicks. I love the effects though, very nice.

Great shot. Your horizon is a little heavy on the left though.

Thanks and good eye :) I was standing on the rocks too, avoiding any unstable ground perhaps thats why its a little tilted to the left.

My shots are always tilted. I've given up on composing perfect shots through the viewfinder. Its fun to try but photoshop lets you correct your accidental tilt problems. No one will be the wiser.

First up for me is the Rock'em Sock'em Robots at the New York New York Casino. I forgot to enable the flash, so it's a bit darker than I would have liked, as they are featured in a black curtained area. ...

Flash would only have helped if you had it set to 'slow'. On my Z2 that simply is a setting for the flash that results in a longer exposure and a flash somewhere at the end AFAIK.
I'm sure there's a photograpically correct name for that trick.

That would have given just a touch of extra light without destroying darkness of the scene.
Of course the longer exposure does make it more difficult to capture anything that's moving ...

A jellyfish I took at the Camden Aquarium. D:

It's very hard to take pics of things in almost pitch black with really dirty glass and kids running around.

Both of you have an eye for composition. Something I struggle with, bah!

Wanky uni project to take a photo suitable for a postcard of Norwich. Presumably this is a project aimed at those studying at my uni who come from other places, but as a resident of Norwich for almost 20 years, I found it somewhat tedious...

Is that Norwich castle? I lived in a village nearby for a few years as a kid but remember very little of it. I remember seeing an Egyptian mummy in the castle, is it still there? :)

The floodlight colours are really nice, but it looks a little overexposed The brickwork detail and shadows look like they could be good closer up, might be worth getting to the base of the wall at night and get a few shots at an angle looking up. You could also do a wider shot with the castle off-centre or crop it:

Yes it is Norwich Castle. :) I couldn't tell you if the Egyptian mummy is still there as I haven't been there myself in a good 14 years, but as far as I'm aware it is! :)

I know what you're saying. It's kind of catch 22 because if I sorted out the exposure for the floodlights, the rest of the castle would become underexposed. It does have some stunning brickwork, and I have done some up-close shots (during the day), and normally I'd have tried other ways, but as it's for a task of making it suitable postcard (which means a crop is out) for Norwich. Postcard research tells me that the subject is almost always central, and pretty much fills the frame - Which is slightly odd as it breaks the rule of thirds! I do appreciate the feedback though, and if it wasn't for a postcard I'd agree you're absolutely right about trying a wider shot/crop.
