ah, but the B2-soundtrack would 'slow down' once you used the boost, something which didn't happen in B3.

hm how about like, one of those gimmicky 'interactive music' things they use so often in consoles... like if theres 1 minute left or during overtime in onslaught, the music goes twice as fast... or when you get on a killing spree it gets more upbeat.... or when your the bottom feeder in mutant it gets a sad melody, or in deathmatch the music changes depending on your placing against other players , on ctf you get an exciting crescendo if your carrying the flag, or the music gets an uplifting tenor when you pick up something like a double damage or a redeemer....
if your in assault the music changes depending on the type of objective your trying to complete (like , in AS-mothership, the space combat part would have star-wars style music, but when your trying to disable the core you get james bond style music or something)
or if you win a match it plays a fanfare(not just a sound effect but the whole music changes), and if you lose it goes all wonky on you and stuff
maybe in vehicle-enabled gametypes, the music can also depend on what type of vehicle your in...like , cowboy-style music in the scorpion, and top-gun 80s rock when your flying the raptor... heck maybe you can even change radio stations gta-style ...

It'd be neat if Epic had a contest similar to the MSU for elements of the next Big Game - like music.

naah dont think so... then they would have to worry about the content makers asking them for abit of the money, or worse still free copies of UT3 gold pro limited ece omgwtf edition w/professional edition of UnrealEd and Maya(which is obviously unacceptable!!)

i thought the msu had a catergory in it which deals with 'best music' or something? or was that one of the things they left out... like i know theres a catergory for sound...

and i thought that some of the stock stuff in 2k4 were made by 3rd parties already anyway, like the deck17 map, or Torlan which is also made by someone out there... in fact i thought that Onslaught mode on a whole was developed by another company?

Well, obviously Epic would have to dicate the rules prior to submissions, such as "if you submit a song, it's ours, and if we use it, you'll get a copy of the game and a keen hat" or something like that. I didn't see any of the other MSU contestants asking for money for their work, so I can't imagine anyone that would submit music would feel any differently about contributing to the game.

They could use dynamic music like in the original Unreal. You know, get in to a heavy firefight, the heavy beats start kicking in. Get the flag or get near to an objective, the music starts picking up again. Running around at base getting kitted out and the music slows down. Might be cool. Bit hard to do with OGG though, they'd have to work out another way of doing it, like a special package with multiple OGG tracks contained within, maybe. Tracked music (.UMX) is one idea, but it's a bit old in the tooth now and trackers can be somewhat limiting.

Just an idea :)

Yes, I can't imagine listening to Eminem while play "Envy", let alone listening to it after 1 or 2 years. Point proven.

Good Idea Arc - that'd definitely make things interesting.

They did this in Unreal II somehow, despite it being oggs...

well i was talking about the dynamic music thing as abit of a joke really, i disliked ut2k4's music so much that i did not think about it seriously... but , wasnt there a time when microsoft said that their directmusic part of directx can create dynamic music in games? and it had a software synth, and it also used midi and considering sound card these days midi shouldnt be a problem... i think that you can just put on different channels with different sounds playing and it would sound like a completely different genre (well in a cheap way, but make it sound good enough and it'll pass) , so in a dynamic music enabled map (i.e. most custom mappers are bad musicians and they just stick an ogg or something with their map, which i dont listen to anyway) the player can have an extremely cheesy experience as the music changes to reflect what is going on with an AI-like midi stream feeding into the soundcard or the software synth, whichever sounded nicer to the player...

Whoa... I did'nt know ut2k4's music was that disliked. I actually find most of it awsome.

The music in the UT2000 series was ok, but it just wasn't close to as good as the music in UT. I think even having music tracks tailor made for each level is definitly the best way to go in getting more atmosphere into the game.

The tracks from the UT2k4 ONS maps were pretty good, though I normally don't listen to them I often include them on the maps I release. UT99 is classic, but a couple do really sound like they were sampled from porn flicks.

they screwed up music royally in 2k3, the music in ut99 seems so epic, trancy and varied.
i hate all that subtle music doom 3 Sh#t, i want Warlike epic orchestra music in ut in general like the original, the game isn't resident evil it's ut it should rock!

Ied much rather just have a controlible play list. Have a folder in the UT DIR for MP3s, or alow you to pic a folder that has music in it allready. But if that dosn't happen, ied rather have kick ass metal, with awesome dubble base action and super sick guitar solos. Unreal seems more of a metalish game then a trancy kind of game. I wanna beable to rock out, while im layin the smack down with a flack, or rocket.
