As we all know, with according to researches, 5.56 bullets fragment when they penetrate flesh if they hit with enough velocity. This means at some ranges 5.56 ammo will do significantly more damage than at longer ranges.
According to www.ammo-oracle.com, it works like this:
Distance to 2700 fps (823 m/s)
20" Barrel
16" Barrel
14.5" Barrel
11.5" Barrel
M193
190-200m
140-150m
95-100m
40-45m
M855
140-150m
90-95m
45-50m
12-15m
As you can see, barrel length and ammo selection make a major impact on fragmentation range.
Also they MAY fragment at speeds between 2500 and 2700 fps (762-823 m/s)
This is important as these ARE ranges we use in INF.
I think if 1 round is made standard it should me the m855/ss109, but it would be better if the game would let u choose between the m855/ss109 and the m193.
Also this will give longer barrel 5.56 weapons the advantage they should have, assuming proper ballistics for each of them is included as well. As I've read somewhere else on the forums, M4, long M16s, SIG and FAMAS use same ballistics right now.
This website also lists the body penetration the bullet needs to have in order to do decent damage so we can use that to help take in the effect of lvlII and lvlIIIa body armor.
