Crotale, The 2nd one is the greatest. Not really care about the outrageous one nor the italics. I'd like to see the font used in U1 & UT used to spell the "unreal", rather than the batman-font.

I did this earth: http://fav.me/d7ittk5 (non-unreal). Then I tried to do similar, but with the planets from UT2, alas my system ran out of memory, crashed and I lost my work. Perhaps once my rage fades, I'll try again :p

You need to rasterize and tweak the base layer of your font and logo to get the most crisp chrome effects Crotale. Also work at insanely large scales and shrink the final product you'll get cleaner lines.

It may be too late now, and it's a small thing, but I think there should be 4 curved lines around the 'U' instead of 3 so as to symbolize UE4 as well as Unreal Tournament.

Since Chris Perna has asked for community input into the logo design, several folks have been working on designs, namely Henrik (aka Bersy). His stuff is far higher quality than anything I can do, but I am working on a new set of fonts and an Unreal U shape that will look much more unified but still throwing back to a distinctively Unreal visual. I hope I don't disappoint.

I'm scrapping the lame font.

New approach, design the U as stand alone that can be used with text in the logo.

Opinions?

I think you're headed in the right direction, but at the moment the large curves give it a balloon font feel.

If you could make the curves more subtle and cut them with clean sharp lines you would have a very aggressive look. And what is more aggressive then an FPS game were the point is to kill each other? Furthermore, of all the FPS games, what FPS is more aggressive then UT?

Here are some visual examples of said 'subtle curves and sharp lines'.

That last 1 is a tad bit ostentatious, but it still fits. Plus the snail eyes to the right amuse me.

I'm still tweaking, so other versions are likely to come. I want to emulate, but not copy, the clean and curved effect of the Nike swish. All my other attempts felt very amateurish.

I have a narrower version of this shape, here's a comparison:

The tail on the end is a bit low in this earlier version.

That is an intended part of the design. Changing that one piece will disrupt the entire flow of the shape. I'm trying to maintain parallel lines and curves as much as possible while giving the overall shape its own design and flow. My goal is to create a U that can be used on its own without fancy hoops, spikes or blades, much like the Nike swish.

Here is an example of how the emblem will look with a font. Please note this is a filler font and layout. By the way, the blue background and gray logo color is for contrast only. I wanted to pick combo of solids that is easy on the eyes.

It is the simplicity of the design coupled with an easily retain-able name that made Nike easily an Iconic design. Not to mention being in the right place at the right time with the right look. NBA was HUGE in the 80's and 90's, most of the major sports stars were endorsed to wear Nike's shoes. Nike ran massive ad campaigns. That logo was everywhere and the simple curve meshed well with the mentality of visual design and the popular perception of it in that period.
Basically if Nike wasn't were it is already and was just starting out it would have a lot more trouble gaining traction in modern markets.

Basically the Nike swoosh isn't some magic formula that if replicated will make something a hit...

I do applaud your goal but making a 'U' look more like the Nike logo isn't likely to get you there. It will merely result in making it a joke.

Ok, fuck it then. As I said, I wanted that easy flow of a look, not the actual Nike graphic.

Just to make sure I am clear here; I am NOT trying to discourage you in any form or fashion. I have looked at the epic forums and of what I have seen you are making the best proof of concepts. Additionally I recall your previous work (I have seen a lot of it), logos and wallpapers, You even used one of my old UT3 logos on a wallpaper. I was quite pleased with how it looked and used it as my desktop wallpaper for several months, and I change out wallpapers sometimes multiple times a day.

So I reiterate I am not trying to discourage you. My soul intent was to offer input and advice about the logic behind logo design and what makes successful logos.

Also in case you are curious I wont be tossing my hat in this ring. I got to much on my plate atm.
