installation nightmare

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I recently had problems with Ut and uninstalled it. It will
not reinstall no matter what. Different folder different
drive different everything. It installs successfully, goes
to detect 3d device, finds Hercules Prophet II pro and
the Ut logo comes up and it dies there. I have removed
the program and everything I could find associated with it
many times, tried software rendering...it won't even start
it safe/troubleshooting mode. The disc is ok, I installed
it in another computer to test it. The 436 patch was also
installed. It would not install in the original or with
the patch. Athlon tbird 1.1 128mb ram sblive gamer 5.1

DO NOT delete any registry keys others tham UT (you are dealing with the core of Windows here)

start -> run -> then type "regedit"

Now search for "Unreal" and "Epic" and delete all keys containing this words.

Yes you must reinstall UT after this, so better uninstall it before.

But I'm not really sure of this is the problem as the registry should be updated when you reinstall. But it's worth a try and only takes a few minutes

thanks but that didn't do it. tech support at UT had no
clue. including reinstalling directx. last resort was
to reinstall winme but I doubt that will do much because
I have installed other programs (giants etc) that are
running fine. any ideas about winini files? this is getting
to be a headache
thanks for your interest and help

I was trying to switch from my V5500 to the Herc II Pro to improve gameplay on D3D games aside from UT. Nightmare is right. Couldn't get UT to work well at all. Choppy, FPS tanked, couldn't window UT without crashing, etc. Tried all the BIOS changes, downloaded the latest drivers, reinstalled UT, tweaked and tweaked.

Nothing. The card is on its way back for a refund. The V5500 is still the sweetest card for UT. I'm running at 1600x1200x16 with an average frame rate of around 55 FPS. UT starts fast, windows fast. Everything is just better. When UT fades away (which who knows when that will be...), I suspect the 5500 will go too. Until then, its the V5500 all the way.
