Well Christmas in Japan is interesting, I had a big sushi dinner! Fantastic
I just had some friends over today... he as been living in Japan for 3 years now and his japanese girlfriend and him came over to canada for the holidays. From what he said, I understand that Christmas came over in japan as a commercial event before Christians "invaded" the country. He decribed it as some sort of valentine day, whereas new years' party is more a familly event.
I find it facinating that there is no traditional/religious event surrounding the winter solistice in Japan. (because historically, back in the tribal days, like before little jesus came out of nowhere, that was what Christmas was all about). From what my friend tells me, not many events are associate with the agricultural cycle in Japan, which is rather common in western civilization and even in other oriental culture (in China and in Indochine for exemple).
Anyway... so you had a big sushi dinner? I'm sure that was nice
My friend brough us some Japanese coffee (which is actually Brezilian). Can't wait to try it
