Can your system handle UT3?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

What framerates do you usually get while playing UT3?

The title kind of nails it. Still, it's interesting to know what framerates you play at and what settings.

i get around 30 fps with visual settings 5/5 and resolution set to 1024x768.
I have performance settings in nvidia drivers, except the anisotropic filtering, which is set to 4x. (less than this i see crappy textures in distant objects)
I know it's not that good but, hey, i play in a laptop :p

i use a mouse and the keyboard of the laptop, so it's no problem lol
i have bigger problems, such as high ping (above 200ms) That really makes me feel cramped :p

I get about the same JD's getting. The lowest I get is in DM-ShangriLa, in what I call the "torture test shot":

This is about the lowest I've seen on any map.

5/5 settings will auto-force 16xAF, I think.

~30 +- 10 (+10 when it doesn't matter, -10 when it does matter...;)) @1024*768*32 1/1 on most stock maps, strangely WAR maps didn't run much worse.

Enough to have some fun with bots on lower levels but not enough to beat anything above adept (not entirely the framerate's fault, I admit).
This is on a 6600GT 128MB card though with only a single core processor and I was surprised it even ran that well.

I know my hardware (Q6600, 8800GTX) is capable of holding well over 100 at all times, but due to some stupid reason that I highly suspect is related to software it doesn't run as well as it should; occasionally my framerate dips near 40. I still voted >60 though.

I get 52fps in DP's torture test position at 1088x816. :(

I do >60 fps on most maps. But some of the new custom maps are too much for my system.

I think mappers really need to think about performance when they map. They should not assume that because they get > 60fps on their 3.6GHz quad core with GTX280 video card that it will run equally on a machine with so called "recommended specs" only.

My not so obsolete specs;
Opty 180 @ 2.6GHz (socket 939)
DFI Infinity NF4 SLI (nforce 6.85 driver)
2GB GSkill DDR400
2 X 7900GTX 650MHz with DDR3 512MB in SLI (175.16 driver, AFR2)
BFG Ageia PhysX (1.1.1.14 driver)
Koolance EXOS 2 LIQUID cooling System
Cooler Master Real Power Pro 750 watt
Lian Li aluminum "oldschool" PC7 case
XP64 pro SP2 (only until Linux port arrives)
21" Sony Trinitron G520, 100Hz refresh
1600x1200, 2-2 quality, 45-85 FPS on stock maps(I set an 85 FPS cap)
1600x1200, 2-2 quality, 35-85 FPS on PhysX maps(capped at 85)

Well I get 90+ all over the place when I just test an empty DM map. Because framerates are really only important when you're duking it out, however, any useful tests would have to include at least eight online players in a scene IMO, several of whom are in vehicles, with the user's view facing the center of the map. If you're still pulling a solid 90 amidst all of that, then you have my undivided envy. :)

PS "under 30" and "unplayable" should be the same response tbh

Yes and no, it can handle UT3, and i get frames in the 50's (unless i look at a portal), but to get the game to run, i must disable hardware audio, and remove two sticks of RAM from my Mobo, or it will crash to the desktop.
