I'm working on a 2D Sidescroller mod as well - Maybe we should join forces?

It appears that the makers of this mod and myself had similar and auspicious idea: Turn UT2004, one of the most advanced and capable game engines out right now, into a 2D sidescroller. We seem to have gone very different directions with the idea, but inevitably, I think our goals are the same.

Here is a description of my mod as it stands now...

Each player can select from one of three classes, Soldier, Scout or Engineer, and attempt to capture the opposing team's flag (Just like TFC). Each class has limited ammo (As to prevent spamming), but can refill their health and ammo at their base. I have tried to get the controls as sidescrollerish as possible, and I think I have done a good job.

Current Classes:
Soldier: Powerhouse class, has a rocket launcher with a vertical 3 rocket burst and a pistol
Scout: Fast and agile, has a basic pistol and 4 grenades (charge up shot like the Assault Rifle)
Engineer: Has a shock rifle with rapid fire shock balls, a charge up knockback beam, and a pistol

Planned Classes (Not yet in game):
Ninja: Has a katana and some shurikens, and also has the ability to climb walls (every sidescroller should have ninjas =/ )
Assassin: Has a sniper rifle (Zooming would give you a fast panning ability so you could see far away places in the map)

I'm also seriously going to attempt to make a single player campaign centered around the ninja class. Possibly something to do with pirates as well.

Anyway, here is my suggestion: I'm planning on submitting my mod to the Make Something Unreal Contest, but I am not the best mapper by any means, and am in desperate need of level designers. I only have one working map at the moment. I'm also in need of people to help with menu graphics and the single player story and such. Since you guys already have some working 2D maps, and have a (mostly) dead project on your hands, I propose we join forces. Port the available maps to my mod/help make new maps, and if it actually wins, we will all share in the prize money. =)

Please let me know your thoughts ASAP. The deadline for phase 4 is August 20.

sounds great!
I wish I had UT2004(is there a CD version of it? my dvd player in my pc doesn't work for no reasons  ,maybe I'll buy it this summer)

I would love to map for it(I'm not a good mapper, but I've some time)
maybe I could map something in ut2003 editor and someone could change some things to make it to an ut2004-map?

but first I want some screenshots and you should say how a map should be like
thx

Ive played it now and I dont like the system with classes :(
basically its the same as 2dctf
and you jump way too high

I think you should recreate the original 2d mod for us :)
would be easier for you and you would have a complete mod very fast
and when you have all gametypes working you could start to create a new one (with classes)
