Ouch :s

You still updating the rest of your computer anway?
Since I found the problem I'm more than likely going to save up for a new motherboard, CPU and graphics card (possibly memory too).

Its strange were people say 754 is obsolete, technically it is, and 939 is all that is still going. But there are still releases for Socket A, it jst doesnt want to die. I wouldn't go 754 for the following reasons:

-939 is better
-Socket A is cheaper

754 doesnt really have any advantages, and you can't have dual channel

he he he he he, that is what you think.
I have a sempron 2400+ 1667 mhz.
my heavyest game is half life 2.
in combination with 1GB RAM and a 9800 pro,
this games runs at full speed!

settings everything on highest and 16X AF and 4X AA.
only some framerate drops when causing multiple explosions.

but some people just want the newest of the newest.
while most games runs perfectly when using a very normal
2ghz cpu, lots of ram and a fast dx9 card.

processors like 4000+ are build for people that want real speed,
and you wont need to upgrade your pc for aprox. five years.

if you dont need to play all games at full speed, offcourse.
playing every new coming game at top speed,
impossible when not having a good financial income.

if i want to upgrade too top level:
SLI mainboard $140
amd fx-57 $1100
2X 6800 ultra $600 = $1200
corsair vs 1GB $100

these are only some basic upgrades, with a total of $2540

I only going to spare some money for a s939 mainboard with agp,
(i still want to use my 9800 pro) and an amd 64 3000+.
wich also costs around the 300 dollar

If your going to upgrade, why do it twice?
If your going a64 then go PCI-e.
If your going top end SLI, the 7800GTX cards are the same price as what you posted for the 6800s, and the new X2 dual core CPUs are less then the over priced FX57, and if you`re going to do all that, you`ll need a 2gig kit of memory. I just ordered all of the above, sept the CPU, still deciding, and it was alot less then you posted. ;)

these are the prices in holland,
most things got very expencif in my country.
thanks to that good for nothing euro.
first whe had the gulden, but europe is using the euro now.
and that has a big effect on the prices.

1 euro = 2.20371 gulden and one 1 euro is almost the same as the dollar.
but, without kidding, what once costs 10 gulden is now 10 euro.
in other words, most things cost more than double. :(

Yeh right, I call that bull**** untill you show a screenshot of HL2 @ 1600x1280, 16x AF and 4xAA and a playable framerate.

I can't get HL2 to run smooth (=50+ FPS) on such details and there is no way that your Sempron system is faster than my XP2800 (2083Mhz), 1Gb PC3200 (Corsair) and GF6800GT.

I can run pretty much max on HL2 without AA/AF. Only time i killed off the FPS was when i threw some explosive barrel into other barrels blowing up about 6-8 zombieheads..

xp3200, 1gig corsiar pro, 9800xt, nforce2.

Yea, something in the barrels always causes the frame to drop like a brick. I've still got an annoying problem with HL2 anyway, always the same place I'll get a "blink", I got them with my MX420 and I still get them with this system. It's stupid really, VALVe kept blaming my PC.
