Xbox 360 sales ban on the horizon?
Dunno if this has been posted yet, but apparently Microsoft infringed on some patents and a U.S. judge has recommended that the console no longer be sold.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/05/...ended-by-judge Interestingly, Xbox 360 sales are already banned in Germany, along with many other Microsoft products due to this fiasco. I'm glad I play on PC. Last edited by DarkED; 1st Jun 2012 at 11:05 PM. |

Feh, it's almost impossible to release something without potentially violating someone's overly vague patent

It's just Google being a dick to Microsoft. Google bought Motorola not too long ago. This crap happens every day, especially between Google, Microsoft, and Apple. It's just a money grab. All corporations do it. It's not like Microsoft will allow their console to be banned from sale. They'll go back and forth for a few months and then the problem will suddenly disappear and no one will know who got how much money in the end. This one might last longer than usual because the 360 is end of life and Microsoft probably doesn't want to pay that much.
It's just ridiculous how much of a joke our legal systems are. Who would have thought our world would revolve around people in silly robes deciding which asshole gets the million dollars this time around?

I swear patent-trolling is becoming incredibly rife of late. It's to the point where you couldn't possibly release anything without stepping on someone else's toes. It's like when Carmack couldn't release Doom 3's source because of a Creative patent from a decade ago (despite both techniques being developed independantly at the same time). We all know how much Creative has benefitted from their colossal contributions to shadow rendering.

This is pretty much Motorola lashing back against Microsoft's stupid "private" patent claims against Android OEMs. That litigation represents what is wrong with the patent system more than this one does.
