new XMP player...need help!

well, I bought this a few months ago (SE version) and added update patch, even d/l and installed CMP.

I can't seem to get anything on server list. I've looked at the stickies and tried those suggestions but to no avail.
I added the master server code line to myxmp.ini, but it keeps resetting itself. I tried adding that code for the u2 browser moneky and that didn't work either.

I'd REALLY like to try XMP, considering how much I love UT. I understand that Legend closed their doors a while back, and I beleive there was some issue regarding the master server. Well, judging from some of the posts here it seems like people are still playing XMP and I'd like to also!

The stickies I noticed also have not been updated in a while, so what other information am I missing on how to get this to work properly?
Or is it just dead and there are no games at all?

Any help would be appreciated.

you can add them to your xfire favorites list... just use the game port and it'll work every time.

Xfire can launch u2xmp into a server.

The stickies havent been updated because there no newer information to update them with. I do try to keep the server list current, though.

If you can't connect to the master server, its likely down. Trying brining up the console and type 'open xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' (x's are the server IP) and that should allow you to connect.

Ok, i just tried it again (the myu2xmp.ini trick), and I swear it keeps resetting it to it's default state! I even tried making it a read-only file and it still did it!

Anywho...I'm going to assume that the top sticky with the IP addys are the ONLY servers running XMP??? If so, then I will go ahead and add each one manually to the favs list.

And where IS the master server? who is running it? and why is it always down?
I'm asking since this is all new to me...

well, I'm going to go try what I just said and see if that works. Of course, it'll take me a moment to get used to XMP (IF I get it to work), since I'm so used to UT2k4.

Ok, well, I just tried going thru Xfire. I added the server ip, and it started up XMP.

The modem seems to be "busy" doing something...but the game itself just sits there on the main menu. I don't know if it's loading or not, but it acts like it's trying to connect but there is no loading on my screen.

Sorry if this is a n00bish, but I've had it so easy with UT and didn't have to go thru this to play online.

I added the Xenotech server, I'm going to try another one, the BBF server.

If you need help on how to move and wall jumps and about the game give me a pm and i'll come to a server and help you. I don't like xeno tech server, ping bounces (between my usual 140-210) around and it's always way too laggy. Anyway i see you're an eq2 player...i tried eq2 for 2 months and got a lvl 20 wizard and a lvl 14 crusader...i gave up 3 months ago after i worked myself to death on crafting and it got in the way with other things.

The Master server is hosted by Atari, and about its constant down-time... well, they don't really keep anyone informed.

If your having trouble connecting, maybe a particular server is running custom crap that you don't have loaded, can't download or something.

I would tend to avoid Xenotech servers like the plague. They are popular amongst the dozen or so US based XMP servers for some reason, but I really don't like their performance.

Yeah actually I go back and forth between EQ2 and WoW a lot.

The whole crafting thing in EQ2 is so booooooring. I tried it just to say I tried it, and it's just not fun at all. I'd rather be out slaying monsters and exploring. It's still a fun game, when you're grouped with friends exploring a dungeon or whatever. And WoW is fun when I don't want to think. :lol: Cuz really, it should just be called Diablo 3. It's a fun game too, but there's more depth in EQ2; although I defeintely prefer the crafting in WoW.
Also, at least SOE is dedicated to constant fixes/bug fixes/additions etc to the game via daily updates...whereas in WoW you're lucky if you get anything other than a stealth nerf! AND...most importantly, I can actually LOG ON to the game I'm PAYING for!! What a concept! :lol:


Anywho...I'll try to get into XMP again later tonight and see if I can get it to work.

Notes- Make sure you didn't just paste the favorites section into the end of your ini. It's supposed to go in the [U2.BrowserMonkey] section, pasted directly over anything that may be in the Favorite= subsection. If it was just pasted into the end of your ini, U2XMP would more than likely remove that info since it doesn't know exactly what to do with it. :)

Also, in order to see these servers on the in-game browser you need to click the FAVS button on the bottom of the screen. Hope this helps, I'll check in again tomorrow morning to see if you have any questions. :D

Don't forget to add the ports when manually entering an ip. Some of the servers are on the same box with the same ip's and need the port number to distinguish them.

Hey Jem It's nice to you around.... :D and anyways, BlackDragon, i hope to see you around.... after all, xmp needs all the people it can until the UTXMP mod shows the real power that has yet to come :)

note: UT-XMP is incomplete right now, tons of serious bugs, and i hope that the next patch will bring tons of new playability on it :D

but my ass got owned the moment I started :D
guess I better play that tutorial first....

Anywho, something I've noticed:
in UT you can set upa server, or practice match, with bots. Why is there is no selection for bots? or is it somewhere and I'm just not seeing it???

Going to install the XMP CBP later as well.

I are teh n00b, but... methinks Deus_Ex needs the 7710 patch. I had the same problemo when I first loaded XMP a few weeks back.

Also, for finding servers, the first thing someone said to try was All Seeing Eye. It works sweet, but the newer ones sux cuz Yahoo bought them out. I got an old one luckily, and I just turned off the auto-update so it doesn't install the Yahoo one. I don't know what else to use besides ASE. Is X-fire any good if you don't have any friends/buddies added to it yet? For a new player that wouldn't work.
