Just got back from seeing this, and I loved it. Didn't think that a film about a girl getting pregnant would be massively interesting to me, but I loved the characters so much, and it was so well made, and the script was quite simply amazing. Whoever wrote it should be punched in the mouth for being just a bit too talented. I feel as though I should have given it 10, as I honestly can't think of a flaw or anything that annoyed me in the entire film (except the bloody girls sitting next to me grrrr) - it was just magical - but I think I'd have to see it again in time to see if I really loved it that much.

Agreed. Everything just felt right about that film. The musical interludes, the performances, the editing, the dialogue, the characters, not too heavy on the sentimentality... the only reason I wouldn't give it a 10 is because I never found it roll-around-on-the-floor hilarious, but frankly it didn't need to be. It's a real charmer.

Yeah I'm kinda torn about this movie. I haven't seen it yet (probably'll check it on DVD) but it looks kinda like other shallow youth-oriented action flicks like Underworld, Van Helsing, The Covenant, and That One Recent Movie Where They Turn Into Animals And Kill Each Other. But then on the other hand, it's directed by Doug Liman who directed Swingers, Go, and Bourne Identity and those are some of my favorite movies. The guy definitely knows how to direct a solid, above-average popcorn movie if anything. So while it looks lame, Liman helmed it, and I'll give him the benefit of a doubt I guess.

Alpha Dog - 7.5/10
I liked this movie. I liked it a lot, in fact. Everything was pretty top notch but I felt like at some points it wasn't being given the solid push it needed to evoke any real emotions. It's hard to describe but it's sort of like sanding something down more than you needed to and while it's still functional, it isn't exactly the way it should be and it sorta bothers you. Not to mention Sharron Stone was horrible in the end. She had it so easy too. I mean it was almost guaranteed to be a tear jerker with everything leading to this and how she cared so deeply for her son and then Sharron Stone is in a fat suit with this giant grin on her face giving her best "Depressed Jack Nicholson" impression. ****in get that lady off the camera and get someone who can act. Doesn't matter if she's a big name in a sea of relative moderate stars - she ****ed up an important scene.

The reason that ... you're named ... after it? :p

My secret shame is that Iron Monkey only deserves an 8.

Seriously, If you've only ever seen one film that you think is absolutely amazing then that's slightly depressing to me. I just looked at my IMDB vote history and I haven't got many on there at 10, not huge amounts at nine either, and films like The Fountain and Remember the Titans which I really really like only merit an 8 and 7 respectively ... but one film at 10? Boo to that. :(

Amazing movies get 9.x (recent examples, Pan's Labyrinth & The Incredibles). 10 is reserved for that perfect movie. I'm still waiting to see it. :(

I'm always a bit behind in movies since I rarely feel like going out and spending $10 on a shot in the dark when they're in theater. Downloading or getting them from the library ftw!

Lady in the Water -- 5.0 -- F**king weird. Probably would have been better/more believable set in medieval era, but it takes place at a freaking motel in Philadelphia. Therefore, it ended up hard to believe, and the characters seemed fake and forced for the most part.

The Kingdom -- 7.5 -- Pretty good once it got going. Until then it was rather slow. Good atmosphere and believability. I found it odd that Jennifer Garner's character had absolutely zero point (aside from screaming and yelling and being useless) until the very end. Seemed a bit too cliche. There's some guitar stuff on the soundtrack that I need to find that has a very Explosions in the Sky/Russian Circles feel to it.

Cashback -- 8.0 -- Kind of like a chick flick but with lots of naked girls in it, some of which are amazingly sexxeh. Definitely has an indie feel to it, very artsy and unique, but not without its humorous sections. I enjoyed it.

Cloverfield - Loved it! Minor flaws, but nothing really worth noting. Loved it. 9.7/10

Step Up 2: The Streets - Not usually my kind of movie, but the girlfriend wanted to see it. Surprisingly interesting and it held my attention. 7.5/10

Oldboy - 8/10
I actually bought this on DVD about 3 years ago, but only got round to watching it round the boy's on V-Day (hardly the type of film to watch on v-day but there you go.) It was a lot different to what I expected, and although I had heard from quite a few people that it was good, it certainly surpassed my expectations. I'd rate it higher, but one thing that particularly bugged me was one scene that was blatantly borrowed from another Asian horror movie. But a great film and I'd recommend it.

Scene that bothered me:
When Dae-su cuts his tongue off as an offering to Woo-jin... Ichi the Killer, anyone?

Blair Witch Project - 9/10... they don't make horrors like they used to... wait they never made them this good cept maybe a few.

Jumper 5/10

I admit I had problems with this movie from the get go simply because I despise Hayden Christensen. When he looks into the camera with that pretty boy scowl I just want to knee drop his ****ing face.

But Jumper is actually eh, average. But...

Like a lot of movies with a good gimmick, the only thing the plot can do well is move the film around elaborate action sequences. And in that sense, the film is mildly entertaining. Samuel L. Jackson is actually better than he's been in recent years (this guy is in serious need of another Quentin Tarantino career reboot).

What doesn't work for me are a lot of little things. For instance, we have a main character who discovers he is a "Jumper" and can teleport anywhere he is currently looking or anywhere he's been. He is being chased by an group of people who all dress the same, called Paladins. And we never quite know why. Samuel does a decent job as Roland, the bad guy. But we never know much about the Paladins motivations other than brief mentions about how they think the Jumper's have unnatural power. There's a three second explanation from one of the other Jumpers along the lines of "this thing's been going on for centuries ect ect ect!" but that's about it. There's also a subplot involving the main character's mother that never gets resolved...actually nothing gets resolved. Once the protagonist establishes the fact that he has an enemy, the movie jumps around between action sequences and boring romantic moments with an extremely uninteresting female love interest who exists only to be annoying and to get in the way, so our boy the hero can make a lot of stupid mistakes trying to save her. Which leads to more actions sequences. And for a movie about jumping from one random scene to another...it gets oddly predictable...

The movie doesn't seem to end and it is more like a 90 minute setup for another movie. Only by the end of it we still don't know what the hell is going on. On the plus side, it isn't a stupid movie...let alone a bad one. It's just awfully generic.

The best movie in the trilogy, imo.

I'd rate Identity 9/10, and Supremacy 8/10. :)

Blades of Glory 7.5/10

I had no idea what to expect from this film, and usually I find comedy films to have some bits that I like and other bits that grate or are a bit lame, but I really enjoyed this one; there wasn't one thing that got on my nerves, and it had me laughing throughout. I really didn't expect that from a mainstream comedy film, but then I think it helped that I like ice dancing, even when it's having the piss ripped out of it. Fancying Jon Heder did no harm either

The last scene made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe.

The part where they slide into each other's groins made the whole theater erupt in "AAAAAWWWWGGGHHHH!!!!"

Jumper - 6.5/10. Could have been much better, if the plot had some more depth. We have Jumpers. We have Paladins (or how they're called in original version? I watched russian one.). We know that they have a long story thanks to remark of one of the characters. That's all. They could have added a lot of depth by telling that story, what makes jumpers different, where exactly it came from, etc, but they jumped past it right to bashing each other.
