Unreal beta the begining

Don't be surprised, Jenifur. 223m is not entirely official. It may contain bus and System200 dir is placed just in case of problems. Quite simply - 223m is causing problems? - you delete the system dir, copy the system200 dir and rename it to system and you're back at version 200. It's a "downgrade patch" such as in case of UT GOTY, where you have System400 dir on CD1.

NONE of the files in my copy of Unreal 223m have a 19 May 1998 datestamp.

The majority of files in the Maps dir are 14-17 May 1998.
Entry.unr 12 May 1998, DM-Loxi.unr 15 November 1998, DM-Cybrosis.unr 10 December 1998, DM-Shrapnel.unr 13 January 1998, DM-Letting.unr 14 January 1998, DM-Mojo.unr 15 January 1998.

Music dir is all 17 May 1998.

Sounds dir is all 17 May 1988.

Textures dir is almost all 17 May 1998, except for Belt_FX.utx which is 12 March 1999.

It seems as if there's at least 2 different sets of datestamped files for Unreal 223m.

Delacroix, if you want, I'll make a .ISO of my copy of 223m and upload it as well. If you want me to do the upload, it will take me a few days to send the file as I am on dialup.

It's main purpose was to enable GOTY owners to make maps for all editions of UT. Since UT is NOT backwards compatible, you get the following: once you create a map on any version higher than 400, it will not run on the lower versions. BUT if you use the UnrealEd included in System400 folder (or System200 in U1), the map created will be playable on ALL versions of the game.

Did today try to upload but when i,m came back to mine comp the upload did stop he could not find a server.I doo the upload wednesday.the files is something like 220 mb compressed with rar.i hope that the server not goes down wednesday greetz)bee(scarbelly.nl

Patch Compatibility
The Unreal 226 patch is compatible with the following commercial versions of Unreal:

Unreal 200 (English): This comprises all boxed retail copies of Unreal in North America.
Unreal 200-209 (International): All boxes retail copies of Unreal in Europe, Australia, and Asia in English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian.
Unreal 3dfx OEM version 223 (Bundled with 3dfx Voodoo3 boards).
Versions of Unreal bundled with hardware between version 209 and 221 are not compatible with the patch.

It's safe to install this patch on top of previous Unreal patches. This patch replaces any old files that need updating.

This patch should be compatible with all user-created maps, texture sets, sound files, and music files. It is not compatible with user mods (.u files) created with versions earlier than 224, or maps which rely on those mods for operation; these mods will need to be recompiled, as described on the Tech Page.

1) Unreal Patch 222 - to complete my collection of Unreal patches
2) Unreal Alpha (1995) - NOT THE TECH DEMO! There was another leak in 1995.
3) Unreal Beta (1996 or 1997) - the beta everyone is looking for, with the dragon, etc.

There was a loong time between 220 and 224 releases, it must be the time that EPIC changed the codebase, I presume 223 is in the latter codebase.

The version had to been made patchable by EPIC, EPIC made a delta 436 patch when UT GOTY which was version 432.

See if you can connect to servers with 223.

the system200 should be the original release version of the game (system folder only, should work, you may need the CD in to run it.

In System200 dir there are only 2 files. I don't understand why. Engine.u and UnrealI.u. At least in Scarbelly's version.

Unreal 223m is patchable. As Jenny states, her version contains the 226Final patch on the 223m's CD. So, you can patch it.
