You know what wasn't a Zelda game? Zelda. Also, Super Mario Bros+ 2 + 3 weren't Mario games either. Also Metroid and Super Metroid. Not those games. If you have a successful 3D iteration, it doesn't matter how good the 2D versions were, they simply don't count.

Does that mean games like Duke3D and Doom 1 and 2 only count half? Like do the maps count since they where 3D, but not the guns, enemies and pickups because they where 2D? Or do they flat out not count at all, because voxel and raycasting isen't polygonal 3D?

A most perplexing conundrum..

I belive we must ask Jacks to clarify on thease rules, as he appears to be an expert on such matters. And i shall brace myself for his answers..

small but official tidbit of information has been dropped by Dan Houser in a recent interview.
it's the very last question and it's not much but it's the only thing to leak since the trailer came out.

GameInformer: You just released the GTA V trailer. Can you talk about that project in any respect? Obviously, it looks like its going back to San Andreas.

Dan Houser: I've got to be real careful here, or they will drag me through the office and whip me with barbwire. I will stick to exactly what's in the press release. It's Los Santos and the surrounding country side - and a very big map.
[screenshot]http://i.imgur.com/66lSE.jpg[/screenshot]

so from what is evident in the trailer and this latest detail (about revisiting Los Santos specifically) this much is clear: GTA 5 is at least going to be similar to 4 in the way that it refocuses on a city from past games while adding a shitload of detail and expanding the map by a large degree. we can basically expect to see a fresh, highly polished, and much more faithful recreation of Los Angeles and the surrounding hills/countryside; meaning Hollywood and the beach. much like how GTA 4 brought us an updated and much more focused version of New York. it's also clearly going to be set in relatively current times. the 00's more or less. there doesn't appear to be any flair from any specific era.

whether or not any aspect of San Francisco or Las Vegas will be included is obviously yet to be seen. but at this point I'm going to assume not unless they're hiding A LOT. granted this is early for any kind of speculation, but in my opinion there's also A LOT of content that can be covered by a going with a strict and detailed focus on LA/Hollywood.

you've got mountainous countryside, sweeping valleys, oceans and beaches, forests and farms all just a short trip down the highway from the heart of a thumping urban center.
what's not to love?

remember, it's pretty much exactly what the trailer has given away so far.
I also love that we're getting planes back. helicopters are so boring.

one of the closing images from the trailer really says it all I think.
we're getting a massive recreation of LA.

the GTA community thinks they've found another secret detail: the (assumed) protagonist is voiced/portrayed by actor Ned Luke.

One thing that I've noticed is Rockstar often has the main character somewhat resemble the voice actor, they did this with some degree with Niko, but especially with CJ and Luis for example. Now, take a look at the rumored voice actor Ned Luke. Looks a lot like our man on the balcony. Which would not only mean he is the voice actor, but he voice actor of the protag.

Take a look at the nose and the eyes especially:

but perhaps the biggest clue is his voice compared the narrator of the GTA5 trailer.

interesting thread unfolding HERE attempting to determine the relative size of the GTA5 map.

Together, we have been able to identify the following real-life buildings and locations in the game:

based on what they've recognized from the trailer, people took the liberty (lol GTA pun) to create some tentative maps of the potential area that would need to be covered.

The maps are pretty awesome, indeed. But I think people could obsess over the trailer quite a bit more.
My theory is that the "V" in the logo is actually a hint at the Saturn V. I interpret this as "the game is going to be set in space". Therefore, the trailer is basically just supposed to be misleading! Clever move, if you ask me

Actually, I'm just joking. But if anybody feels like obsessing over this theory as well - go ahead!

they're just rough outlines that people are using to try and guess how large the game space will be. it's based on the number of identified, real landmarks from the first trailer. some people have taken the liberty (lol GTA pun) of creating more detailed interpretations which you can see HERE.

examples.

compared to some of the crap you see appearing on GTA Forums "V Chat," that's actually a pretty tame theory :p

What's funny about the maps is that they're incredibly detailed for being made from just a trailer, so if there was just one of them it would be pretty impressive and you would assume a lot of work and research went into it. Except there are dozens of them and all of them are entirely different!
