Weird teams in UT2004 singleplayer

Ok, so I started playing the UT2004 single player ladder again after several years.. I've almost completed it but I saw some weird teams..

1. First time I played Deck-17 (the pre-final DM map) I selected my team mates normally but they didn't appear in the match. Instead of them there were random members of other teams on my side. The loading screen was also different, all participants were displayed around the screen, and not divided into teams. I lost that match thanks to stupid bots in my team. The second time I got my usual team (and won the match).

2. I've also been challenged to a 1vs1 match twice by a team named "." or something. The opponent was a member of another team.

Are these bugs or should the game really act like this. =d

I'm a little confused how you can play a single player game with other players. Doesn't single player kinda mean that only one actual player is involved?

Bots are players too!
